Colorphrase
Overview
Highlight rhetoric, manipulation, facts vs opinions and more in any selected text — with Chrome's built-in AI, on your computer.
See the rhetoric behind the words. Select text on any page — a paragraph, an article, a post — and Colorphrase colour-codes it through the lens you choose. Hover a highlight to see why it was marked. Five built-in palettes. Manipulation techniques (fear-mongering, us vs them, urgency, appeal to authority, flattery…), fact vs opinion, the emotions a text is built to evoke, information density, and Spiral Dynamics value systems. Your own palettes. A palette is just colours, each with a name and a description of what to mark: "Praise", "Complaint" and "Specifics" for product reviews, or anything you need. Read it your way. The page keeps its links and layout; only highlights are added. A legend counts each colour; click one to dim the rest, or hide everything else. Copy a report of every highlight with its reason, and Clear restores the page. Private by design. Colorphrase runs on Chrome's built-in AI (Gemini Nano) on your computer. Your text is never sent anywhere: no server, no account, no API key, no analytics. The extension makes no network requests at all. How to start: after installing, click "Download the model" on the welcome page (Chrome downloads it once, about 4 GB). Then select text, right-click → Colorphrase, or press ⌘⇧Y (Ctrl+Shift+Y). Needs desktop Chrome 138 or later, 22 GB of free disk space, and a graphics card with more than 4 GB of memory or 16 GB of RAM. Works best in English, Spanish, Japanese, German and French.
