Overview

Click to clip any image region using AI — for digitized magazines, archives, and any site

Collage Clip is the fastest way to lift a picture off a web page. Click something you want — a face in a scanned magazine, a flower in a botanical print, a single letter on a vintage poster — and the extension finds its edges and copies it to your clipboard as a transparent PNG. Paste it wherever you are working. No lasso tool. No manual erasing around fiddly edges. No exporting through a separate image editor. You click, it cuts, you paste. Everything happens on your own computer. The AI segmentation model is bundled inside the extension and runs locally in your browser. No upload, no server, no account, no tracking. It works with your internet connection turned off. HOW IT WORKS Click the toolbar icon to switch the extension on for the current tab. The page itself is never modified. From there you have two ways to work. CLICK MODE — point at what you want 1. Click the thing you want to keep. A green plus marker appears and the model proposes a cutout. 2. Not quite right? Keep clicking. Each extra click on the subject tells the model "this part too" and sharpens the selection. 3. Caught something you do not want? Hold Shift and click it. A red minus marker appears and that area is pushed out of the selection. 4. When the preview looks right, press Enter. The cutout is copied to your clipboard as a transparent PNG. A few clicks is usually enough, even for tricky shapes. The markers stay visible on the page so you can always see what you have told the model. DETECT ALL — cut out everything at once When a page is full of things you might want, choose Detect All. The extension scans the visible page, finds every distinct shape on it, and lays the results out in a sidebar. Click any shape to copy it to your clipboard. It is a fast way to harvest a magazine page or a catalog spread. WHAT IT IS GOOD FOR Collage Clip was built for people who make things out of found images: digital collage, mood boards, zines, slide decks, teaching materials, research and archive work, family-history projects, and anywhere else a subject on a transparent background is more useful than a screenshot of a whole page. WHAT MAKES IT DIFFERENT It is interactive. Most one-click tools guess at the foreground and leave you to live with the result. Here you guide the model: click to add, Shift-click to remove, watch the cutout improve with each click. It is local. Your screen content never leaves your machine. No upload, no queue, no usage limit. It is region-level. It does not just separate a single subject from a plain background — point at one object among many on a busy page and that is what you get. PRIVACY When you click, the extension takes a screenshot of the visible tab, runs the model on it locally, computes your cutout, and discards the screenshot. The screenshot is held in memory only. It is never written to disk and never sent anywhere. The extension makes no network requests of its own. The only thing it remembers between sessions is your model preference (Fast or Quality), saved locally on your device. TWO MODELS — PICK YOUR TRADE-OFF • Fast (the default). Quicker to load and quicker to respond. Good for clear subjects on simple backgrounds. • Quality. A larger model that takes a little longer but handles fine detail and awkward edges more carefully. Reach for it when a subject has wispy hair, thin lines, or a busy background. Both run entirely on your device. The first click of a session takes roughly three to five seconds while the model loads into memory; after that, clipping is quick. Switch models on the extension's options page. CONTROLS • Toolbar icon — switch the extension on for the current tab. • Click — add the spot you clicked to the cutout (green plus). • Shift-click — remove the spot you clicked from the cutout (red minus). • Enter — copy the finished cutout to your clipboard. • Esc — cancel the current selection and start over. • Options page — choose between the Fast and Quality models. TIPS • Start with one click near the center of your subject, then judge the preview before adding more. • Use Shift-click generously. Telling the model what to exclude is often faster than hunting for the perfect positive click. • Zoom the page in before clipping a small subject. A bigger subject on screen gives the model more to work with. • For very intricate edges, switch to the Quality model. • If a page has many things you want, Detect All is usually faster than clicking each one. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Is it free? Yes. Does it work offline? Yes. After installation no internet connection is needed. The model runs locally on your device. Do my screenshots get uploaded anywhere? No. Screenshots are created in memory, used to compute your cutout, and discarded. They are never saved to disk and never transmitted. Do I need an account? No. There is no sign-up and no login. Why does the first click take a few seconds? The first click of a session loads the model into memory. About three to five seconds. Every click after that is fast. What format are the cutouts? PNG, with a transparent background, placed on your clipboard. Where can I paste a cutout? Anywhere that accepts a pasted image. Does it work on any website? It clips whatever is visible in the tab, so it works on ordinary web pages, image galleries, and document viewers shown inside the browser. Can I clip a frame from a video? Yes. Pause the video on the frame you want, then clip it like any other image. The cutout edges are not perfect. What can I do? Add more clicks on the parts that were missed, and Shift-click the parts that should not be included. For very detailed edges, try the Quality model and zoom the page in. Can I undo a click? Press Esc to clear the current selection and start again. Does it change or damage the web page? No. It reads what is on screen to make your cutout. It does not modify the page or the site. Will it slow down my browsing? No. Nothing runs until you switch it on for a tab. Why is the extension a fairly large download? It bundles its model so it can run fully offline with no server. That makes the package larger than a typical extension, but it is what keeps your images private and the tool usable without an internet connection. What data does it store? Only your model preference (Fast or Quality), saved locally with the browser's storage. Nothing else, and nothing leaves your device. Is my model choice synced between computers? No. The setting is stored locally on each device. Which browsers are supported? Chrome version 116 and newer. Can I use the cutouts commercially? The extension does not grant or change image rights. You are responsible for having the right to use any image you clip. Public-domain and openly licensed sources are the safest choice for work you publish or sell. THE PERMISSIONS, EXPLAINED • activeTab and scripting — to place the clipping tools on the page you are looking at and to take the screenshot used for the cutout. This only happens on the tab you activate, after you click the toolbar icon. • offscreen — to run the segmentation model in a background page so it does not freeze the tab you are working in. • storage — to remember your model choice between sessions. • clipboardWrite — to place the finished cutout on your clipboard so you can paste it. The extension does not request broad access to all your websites, does not read your browsing history, and does not run in the background on pages you have not activated. PRIVACY POLICY Collage Clip collects, stores, transmits, and sells no personal data. Everything described above happens on your device. A full privacy policy is linked from this listing. GET STARTED Install the extension, open a page with something you want, click the toolbar icon, and click your subject. In a few seconds you will have a clean cutout on your clipboard. Clip the world, paste it anywhere.
