Overview

Finds the audio and video tracks of the lecture recording you’re watching and sends them to the LectureFlow desktop app (required).

Save lectures you can already watch for offline transcription and translation. This extension hands the lecture recording you are watching to LectureFlow, the free, open-source study app on your computer, which fetches it, transcribes it and translates it. It is only for the lecture recordings your school gives you: it does not work on YouTube, nor on MOOCs and online or paid course platforms (Coursera, edX, Udemy, LinkedIn Learning and the like). Saving a recording by hand usually means saving the audio and the screen capture separately, renaming the files and dragging them into an app. With this extension it takes one click and one confirmation. HOW IT WORKS • Open a lecture recording. The toolbar icon shows how many audio and video tracks it found. • Click the icon, choose what to send ("Main audio & video", "Two cameras" or "Audio only"; "Choose tracks…" lists every track), pick one of your LectureFlow courses (the one you used last is preselected) and click "Send to LectureFlow". • On a platform it knows (Panopto first), you can also send from the page itself: a "Send to LectureFlow" button sits on the player and on each lecture of a folder list, and "Update this course in LectureFlow" sends the new lectures listed on that page. Rows show "Imported" or the fetching progress. • LectureFlow fetches the files itself, so you can close the popup and even the tab. When fetching is done, the lecture appears in your course and transcription starts. • Sent this lecture before? The popup says "This lecture is already in LectureFlow." and offers "Open in LectureFlow" instead of making a duplicate. • If a fetch waits so long that your sign-in expires, LectureFlow marks it "Needs refresh". Open the recording page again, click the icon and then "Resume". ANY RECORDING PAGE, BETTER ON KNOWN PLATFORMS • On any recording page it counts the tracks it can see: media on the page, media the player has already loaded and, on sites you have allowed, the player's network requests. HLS and DASH streams are split into their audio and video tracks. • For platforms it knows, a platform profile names the tracks (for example "Lecture audio" and "Screen capture") and suggests which ones to keep. Panopto comes first. Profiles are plain data files with no code, written by the community and reviewed before they ship with the extension. You can also import your own profile from a file to try it; it is marked "Not reviewed". • Where the information is only in an answer the page itself loads (for Panopto, the full recording and whether it may be restricted), the profile names the few fields to take from that answer. Nothing else in it, such as your name or e-mail address, leaves the page. • For a platform it knows, or a site you add, the extension asks the browser for access to that one site. Only after you agree does it count tracks as soon as a recording opens. Everywhere else it looks only when you click the icon. WHAT IT DOES NOT DO • Apart from the media tracks, it reads only what it needs to name a lecture and to recognise one sent before: the title, recording date and length, the session ID, the titles of the lectures listed on a folder page, and the few fields a platform profile names in the platform's own answers. It never reads course names, course codes, folders or slides: you choose the course yourself. • It does not handle DRM-protected media. Such tracks are marked "Copyright protected (DRM)" and cannot be sent; the popup says: "This stream is protected by digital rights management (DRM). LectureFlow does not handle protected content." • It does not handle YouTube, nor MOOCs and online or paid course platforms, in any browser: on those sites the popup only says "LectureFlow does not work on this site" and nothing is counted or sent; the same goes for such a site embedded in another page. LectureFlow on your computer refuses them too. • If the platform shows that a stream may be restricted, the popup marks it "May be restricted" and tells you: "This stream may be restricted by your lecturer’s or university’s policy. LectureFlow only fetches streams you have access to, to this computer, for your personal accessible learning (transcription/translation). Please make sure you follow your school’s rules. You will be reminded once more before sending." In that reminder you can choose not to be reminded again for that platform; the extension's settings list such platforms and can turn the reminder back on. • No background crawling: it works only on pages you open and fetches only what you choose. On a folder list it handles only the lectures listed on that page. • It does not sign in for you and never stores your passwords or cookies. PRIVACY • Only when you send a lecture does the extension read cookies, and only those of the website that hosts the selected tracks (none at all on platforms whose profile says the media needs none, such as Panopto). It hands them, with the track addresses and the page address, to LectureFlow on the same computer, which uses them for that fetch alone and keeps them in memory only. • On a folder list, lecture details are requested from the platform itself (the page's own site) only after you click to send, and only for those lectures. To show which lectures are already imported or being fetched, the extension asks LectureFlow on your computer when the list opens; nothing goes online, and LectureFlow is not started just for this. • Nothing is sent to us or to anyone else. No account, no telemetry, no analytics. • Privacy policy: https://github.com/ShouldBeQuincy/LectureFlow/blob/main/docs/extension/privacy.md REQUIREMENTS • LectureFlow 3.2.0 or later, on Windows 10/11 (64-bit) or macOS 13 or later on Apple silicon. It is free and open source: https://github.com/ShouldBeQuincy/LectureFlow/releases • Open LectureFlow once after installing it; it connects itself to the browser. Without LectureFlow the extension can count tracks but cannot fetch them. • Linux, ChromeOS and mobile devices are not supported. Interface languages: English, 简体中文, 繁體中文(台灣), 粵語(香港), Русский, हिन्दी. Open source under the GNU AGPL v3 or later; platform profiles are CC0.
