Overview

Detects USB/HID/storage devices during proctored assessments. Pen drives, peripherals, and hotplug events flagged in real time.

CodeSpectra Device Audit detects connected USB, HID, and storage devices during proctored online assessments on codespectra.ai. Why it exists: The browser WebUSB API blocks pen drives, keyboards, and mice — they never appear in a web page's device enumeration. This extension uses Chrome's privileged extension APIs to see what the web cannot, closing a critical gap in exam integrity. What it detects: - Pen drives and external USB storage (via chrome.system.storage) - HID peripherals — keyboards, mice, game controllers (via chrome.hid) - Other USB devices (via chrome.usb) - Real-time hotplug: instant alerts when a pen drive is inserted or removed How it works: 1. Install the extension from the Chrome Web Store 2. Open a proctored assessment on codespectra.ai 3. The extension automatically enumerates all connected devices 4. Each device is classified as Safe, Review, or Blocked 5. Results are reported to the proctor in real time Device classification: - Safe: standard mouse, keyboard, internal storage — accepted with no flag - Review: pen digitizer, vendor-specific USB — flagged for proctor review - Blocked: pen drive, external disk, USB mass storage — blocked and reported This extension is required for proctored assessments on CodeSpectra. It only activates on codespectra.ai assessment pages and does not collect any data outside of exam sessions. Permissions justification: - system.storage: enumerate pen drives and external storage devices - hid: enumerate HID peripherals (keyboards, mice, controllers) - usb: enumerate other connected USB devices - activeTab: read the current assessment page URL for session identification - storage: cache the last device audit for the popup display Privacy: https://codespectra.ai/privacy Terms: https://codespectra.ai/terms
