Coach Mode — AI Form Coach for Sport Tutorials
Overview
Get AI coaching tips while watching sport tutorials on YouTube. Powered by SportsReflector — the #1 AI sports form analyzer.
Coach Mode is a free Chrome extension that detects when you're watching a sport or fitness tutorial on YouTube and shows you how to take the next step — recording your own form and getting instant AI biomechanical analysis powered by SportsReflector. Whether you're learning a tennis serve, perfecting your golf swing, drilling Muay Thai kicks, or fixing your squat form, Coach Mode bridges the gap between watching a tutorial and actually practicing with real feedback on your body. HOW IT WORKS Watch any sport or fitness tutorial on YouTube. Coach Mode automatically scans the video title and description to determine whether the content is instructional — for example, a tennis forehand tutorial, a golf swing tips video, a boxing technique breakdown, or a squat form check. When it identifies a tutorial, a sleek coaching panel appears alongside the video with a simple prompt: record yourself performing the technique and get AI-powered biomechanical analysis through SportsReflector on your iPhone. The analysis uses computer vision and pose estimation to evaluate your joint angles, body alignment, weight distribution, timing, and movement patterns. You get augmented reality overlays drawn directly onto your video showing exactly what to fix — the same things a professional coach would look for, available instantly on your phone. WHAT COACH MODE DETECTS Coach Mode is designed to activate only on instructional content. It looks for tutorial signals like "how to," "technique," "form," "drill," "beginner guide," or "tips" combined with sport-specific context. This means it stays quiet on music videos, vlogs, game highlights, and other non-tutorial content. The detection covers a wide range of activities. If you're watching someone explain how to improve your tennis serve toss or hit a topspin forehand, Coach Mode recognizes that. The same applies to golf instruction — whether the video covers driver mechanics, chipping technique, or putting drills, the panel appears with your next step. For combat sports, Coach Mode detects Muay Thai technique videos covering roundhouse kicks, teep kicks, and clinch work, as well as boxing tutorials on jab-cross combos, footwork, and defensive head movement. It also recognizes MMA striking, BJJ guard passing and submission tutorials, wrestling takedown technique, and martial arts instruction across karate, taekwondo, and more. In the gym, Coach Mode responds to weightlifting form tutorials — squat depth and knee tracking, deadlift hip hinge mechanics, bench press bar path, overhead press form, and any exercise where proper technique matters for safety and results. It also picks up bodyweight and calisthenics instruction like pull-up form, push-up variations, handstand progressions, and muscle-up tutorials, as well as yoga alignment guides, CrossFit movement breakdowns, and general fitness technique videos. Team sport tutorials are covered too. Basketball shooting form and dribbling drills, soccer passing technique and free kick tutorials, volleyball serving and spiking instruction, and football throwing mechanics all trigger the coaching panel. The same goes for racket sports like pickleball strategy videos, badminton smash tutorials, and table tennis technique breakdowns. Coach Mode also detects tutorials for swimming stroke technique, running gait analysis, cycling form, rowing machine technique, rock climbing movement patterns, skateboarding trick tutorials, snowboarding and skiing instruction, baseball batting and pitching mechanics, hockey stick handling, lacrosse throwing technique, cricket batting form, and fencing footwork drills. WHO IT'S FOR If you're a beginner learning a new sport or gym exercise from YouTube, Coach Mode helps you practice correctly from day one. Rather than guessing whether your form matches what the instructor demonstrated, you get objective AI verification before bad habits set in. Intermediate athletes looking to level up will find value in the detailed biomechanical data. The AI spots subtle form issues — a slight knee cave during squats, an early hip opening in your golf swing, insufficient hip rotation on a roundhouse kick — that are hard to see in a mirror but show up clearly in the analysis. Advanced and competitive athletes already know the value of filming themselves for review. Coach Mode adds quantified data on top: joint angles to the degree, timing measurements, and frame-by-frame comparisons that go beyond what a training partner can offer. Coaches and trainers can pair tutorial videos with form-check assignments. Your athletes watch the technique breakdown, film themselves practicing, and arrive at the next session with AI analysis already done — making training time more productive. PRIVACY AND PERFORMANCE Coach Mode makes zero network requests. It reads only the text visible on YouTube pages (video title and description) to determine whether the content is a sport tutorial. No data is collected, transmitted, or stored externally. Your browsing history stays entirely on your device. User preferences — like whether you've paused Coach Mode or dismissed the panel — are stored locally using Chrome's storage API and never leave your computer. There are no analytics, no cookies, no third-party services, and no tracking of any kind. The extension is extremely lightweight at under 50KB with no external dependencies. It adds no measurable load time to YouTube pages and performs no background processing when you're not on a tutorial video. DESIGNED TO BE HELPFUL, NOT ANNOYING Coach Mode only activates on tutorial-style videos — content that combines sport or exercise context with instructional language. Regular YouTube browsing is completely unaffected. You can collapse the panel to a small pill with one click, or dismiss it entirely. If you dismiss the panel three times across different videos, Coach Mode automatically pauses itself for a week. You can also toggle it off instantly from the toolbar popup without neinstalling. The panel appears once per browsing session at most. If you've seen it and moved on, it won't pop back up on the next tutorial video until you start a new session. REAL-WORLD EXAMPLES You're watching a tennis serve tutorial and wondering if your toss and contact point match what the instructor is showing. Coach Mode appears, you record your serve with SportsReflector, and the AI shows you your shoulder rotation angle, racket path, and contact height compared to proper form. You're following a squat form guide because your knees have been bothering you. You film your next set, and the analysis highlights that your knees are tracking inward past your toes and your torso is leaning too far forward at depth. Your Muay Thai coach told you to work on your roundhouse kick at home. You watch a technique breakdown, then record yourself throwing kicks. The AI measures your hip rotation, chamber height, and shin angle so you can see exactly what to adjust. You keep slicing your drives at the golf range. After watching a swing fix video, you film your next few swings and SportsReflector shows you where your club path and face angle diverge from the correction the tutorial described.
