Lifeboat: Form Recovery & Text Rescue
Overview
Never lose what you type. Lifeboat keeps your form text safe on your device and puts it back when a page wipes it.
You wrote three paragraphs. The page logged you out, crashed, or you hit back — and it's gone. Lifeboat keeps a copy of what you type into supported text boxes on websites. When a box that had your writing turns up empty, a small card appears offering it back. One click and your words return. Install it before you lose text: it cannot recover writing from before it was installed. WHAT IT DOES • Saves as you type — comment boxes, forums, support tickets, job applications, long emails, rich editors • Notices real losses — session timeouts, crashes, accidental back, forms that clear themselves • One-click restore, straight back into the field you were writing in • Works with modern sites — React apps, web components, and the editors that broke older form savers • Copies to your clipboard instead if the original field is gone • Open earlier saved versions, forget individual drafts, or clear saved text on a site with a short Undo window • Try a safe, local test from the popup before you need a real rescue By default, saving starts at 25 characters after about two seconds of paused typing, on leaving a field, or on leaving a page. The automatic card is for recent text under 24 hours old; older saved drafts remain available in the toolbar popup until they expire. Chrome's protected pages and unsupported editors cannot be captured. WHAT IT NEVER DOES Lifeboat records what you type. That is the honest description, so here is exactly what it means: • Your saved text never leaves your computer. There is no Lifeboat account, cloud sync, or analytics. Free capture and recovery work offline. Pro contacts Polar to activate and periodically validate your licence, sending licence details only, never saved text. • Saved text is encrypted on your device. • Password fields and recognised payment, security-code, and national-ID fields are excluded automatically. Sensitive information pasted into an ordinary text box can still be saved: pause sites where you do not want writing kept, or clear saved drafts at any time. • Short memory on purpose — the last 3 versions of a field, for 7 days, then deleted automatically. • You are in control: view saved drafts for a site, pause saving, forget a draft and its versions, clear the site, or export its latest saved texts as a JSON file. If you have ever wondered what an extension like this is doing with your typing, the answer should be clear: saved text stays local, you can inspect it, and you decide what to keep. FREE, AND WHAT PRO ADDS Rescue is free forever. No trial or paid rescue quota. After a real rescue, the popup may offer one optional invitation to review Lifeboat; dismissing it stops future invitations. Lifeboat Pro is a $3.99 one-time supporter pack. Support the tool and make it yours: • Four extra boats — Dinghy, Muster, Arcade and Pool Float reskin the whole extension, right down to the rescue card • The Helm — set how long text is kept from 3–30 days, how many versions per field, and how much you must type before saving starts • The Ship's Log — a running count of what Lifeboat has saved and brought back LOOKING FOR A TYPIO OR LAZARUS ALTERNATIVE? If you used an older form saver, Lifeboat is another option for today's Chrome. Typio also has a maintained reboot; Lifeboat focuses on local text rescue, a short default memory, and an optional one-time supporter pack. It does not import another extension's saved drafts.
