Overview

Rest on a schedule you set. Every screen goes black and a guard cat keeps watch. Tracks your screen time on your computer only.

Take Rest reminds you to step away from the screen, and makes the break real. Choose how long you work and how long you rest. When time is up, every monitor goes black and Mochi, a small cat in a guard cap, sits on your screen until the rest is over. Move the mouse and she opens her eyes. WHAT IT DOES • Type in any work and rest time, down to 20-second eye breaks, or pick a preset: 20-20-20, Pomodoro 25/5, 52/17 or 90/20 deep work • Long rests every few cycles • A black full-screen rest on every monitor, with a countdown, a rest suggestion and a breathing guide • A heads-up notification before each rest, with a snooze button • Choose how firm Mochi is: Gentle (skip any time), Balanced (skip after 10 seconds) or Strict (no skipping). Holding Esc for 3 seconds always gets you out in an emergency • The timer waits while you're away, and time away counts as a rest • The toolbar icon counts down the minutes to your next rest • Alt+Shift+R starts a rest from anywhere in Chrome • Your screen time today, rests taken, longest stretch without a rest and your streak, with a 7-day chart and CSV export • Mochi's mood follows your habits: content on a streak, a little grumpy after skipped rests • See where your screen time went: time in other apps, and, if you turn it on, time per website (site names only, kept on your computer) • Light and dark themes, and three guard cats: Mochi, Luna and Tofu PRIVATE BY DESIGN Everything stays on your computer. No account, no analytics, no servers. Take Rest asks for five permissions, and none of them can read the websites you visit. GOOD TO KNOW • Screen time is counted while Chrome is open and you're at the computer. • An extension can't lock your whole computer. The rest screen covers every monitor, but other apps can still be reached with Alt+Tab. Strict mode brings the rest back to the front.
