There is text inside an image and you need it as text? CopyText reads it for you. A meme, a screenshot, a photo of a sign, a table inside a chart, code you cannot select, a frame of a video: open CopyText, point at what you want to read, and the text appears in a small window ready to copy. THREE WAYS TO USE IT 1. RIGHT-CLICK AN IMAGE → "Extract text from image". The quickest: nothing to draw. 2. CLICK THE ICON AND DRAG A RECTANGLE. Works on anything visible on screen: part of a page, a paused video, a PDF, a chart. 3. PASTE AN IMAGE (Ctrl+V) INTO THE WINDOW. For things that are not on a web page: a screenshot you just took, an image copied from another app. You can also drop it onto the window. Pasted images are read at their original resolution, so the result is even more accurate. WHY IT IS DIFFERENT • WORKS OFFLINE. Recognition runs on your computer with Tesseract, an OCR engine bundled with the extension. No connection needed, no server involved. • YOUR IMAGES STAY WITH YOU. No screenshot is ever uploaded, sent or stored anywhere. No accounts, no analytics, no ads. Images stay in the browser's memory and are discarded. • FREE WITHOUT CATCHES. TIPS • Draw the rectangle as tightly around the text as possible. • The language is picked from your browser automatically; if the text is in another language, change it in the dropdown at the top. • Very small text? WHAT IT DOES NOT DO (to be fair) • It does not translate. • It cannot read text inside files shown in the browser's built-in PDF viewer: that tool is not accessible to extensions. Select the visible area instead (that works) or take a screenshot and paste it. Direct PDF support is planned. • It does not guess when an image is unreadable: like any OCR, blurry, tiny or heavily rotated text gives worse results.
