ClipScript: YouTube Transcript & Caption Extractor
Overview
Extract clean YouTube video and Shorts transcripts. Copy or download as .txt/.md, with a timestamp toggle.
Ever needed the actual text of a YouTube video for notes, a quote, research, or just to skim instead of watch? ClipScript pulls a clean transcript from any YouTube video or Short in one click, right from your toolbar. No account, no ads, no overlay cluttering the page. What it does Extracts the video's existing captions (auto-generated or creator-provided) into clean, readable text Works on both regular YouTube videos and Shorts Toggle between clean paragraphs and a [MM:SS]-per-line timestamped view — good for citing a specific moment Copy to clipboard in one click Download as .txt or .md Clear, honest error messages when a video has no captions available — never a silent failure Why we built it Most transcript extensions handle the basics but stop short of what people actually ask for: a real download option, more than one export format, and a UI that doesn't get in the way of the video. ClipScript is built around those three requests. Everything is free — no premium tier, no paywall. How it works ClipScript reads the caption/subtitle data your browser already has access to on the YouTube page you're viewing. It never sends your browsing activity anywhere — extraction happens entirely in your own browser, only for the video currently on screen. Privacy ClipScript doesn't collect, store, or transmit any personal data. It only runs on youtube.com, and only when you click the toolbar icon.
