Overview

Temporarily pin a selected region or selected text to a Picture-in-Picture window.

Temporarily show a selected region or selected text in a Picture-in-Picture window that stays on top. ■ What it does ・Drag to select part of a page, and just that part becomes a small window ・Choose live view, and that part keeps updating along with the page ・Select text and right-click, and you get a window with just that text ・The window stays even if you close the source tab (live view stops playing) ■ When it helps ・Fill in one screen while watching a value or a row of a table on another ・Keep a short piece of information in view that you keep going back to ・Watch a number or a progress indicator that keeps changing while you work on something else ■ How it behaves ・A pinned region or text is a screenshot taken at the moment you selected it. It does not update on its own ・Live view keeps updating, but it ends when you close the source tab ・Live view needs Chrome's permission the first time only. Right after you grant it, start the live view once more ・Chrome allows only one PiP window at a time, so opening a new one closes the previous one ・A single pinned ClipPiP tab opens to hold the PiP window. It closes automatically when you close the PiP ・Requires Chrome 116 or later ■ Privacy ・Captured images, text, and live video are never sent anywhere ・Nothing is saved either. It lives in browser memory only while it is shown, and is gone once you close the browser ・No access to specific sites is requested. Only the tab you act on is accessed, each time ・The permission that live view needs is asked for the first time you use it. If you never use it, you are never asked ■ How to use 1. Choose "Select an area" from the toolbar icon, or pick it from the right-click menu 2. Drag to select the region you want to show 3. The PiP window appears on top For live view, use "Select a live area", or "Select an area to pin live to PiP" from the right-click menu. You can also set a keyboard shortcut. None is assigned by default. Assign any key you like at chrome://extensions/shortcuts.
