Clipdown
Overview
Clip any webpage as clean Markdown — for Obsidian, Logseq, Notion, and pasting context into ChatGPT, Claude & Gemini.
Turn any webpage into clean Markdown in one click. Clipdown is a fast, no-account, no-server browser extension for developers, researchers, and writers who work in Markdown-based tools — or who regularly paste web content into AI chat interfaces like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini. ── PASTE DIRECTLY INTO AI CHATS ───────────────────── Markdown is the cleanest, most token-efficient format to feed into any LLM. Instead of dumping raw HTML or copy-pasting broken text, Clipdown gives you structured Markdown — with headers, code blocks, and tables intact — ready to paste as context for summaries, Q&A, or analysis. Clip a docs page, research paper, or Stack Overflow thread and paste it straight into ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Cursor, or any AI chat interface. No noise, no clutter. ── HOW IT WORKS ────────────────────────────────────── Click the toolbar icon, press Cmd+Shift+M (Mac) or Ctrl+Shift+M (Win/Linux), or right-click any page. Clipdown extracts clean Markdown and shows a live preview — rendered or raw — right in your popup. Then copy to clipboard or download as a named .md file. ── SMART EXTRACTION ────────────────────────────────── • Page clip — auto-detects the main article content using Mozilla Readability, stripping ads, navbars, and clutter. Falls back to the full page DOM if no article is found. • Selection clip — right-click highlighted text to clip only your selection as Markdown. Clipdown also checks whether the site already publishes a Markdown version of the page (via alternate link hints, content negotiation, or .md sidecars) and prefers that over DOM extraction when available. ── FEATURES ───────────────────────────────────────── ✓ Three trigger points — toolbar popup, keyboard shortcut, right-click context menu ✓ Live preview — switch between rendered Markdown and raw text in the popup ✓ LLM token count — see the estimated token count (GPT-4 cl100k_base) for quick context budgeting ✓ Instant re-opens — smart caching with page fingerprinting means the popup loads instantly if the page hasn't changed ✓ Site-markdown preference — automatically uses the site's own Markdown source when one is available ✓ YAML front matter — optionally prepend title, URL, date, description, and author ✓ Copy to clipboard or download as a .md file with the page title as filename ✓ Configurable — toggle front matter fields, site-markdown preference, and verbose logging in Settings ✓ GFM tables — full GitHub Flavored Markdown output including tables, checkboxes, and strikethrough ✓ No sign-up, no cloud, no tracking — everything runs locally in your browser ── PERFECT FOR ────────────────────────────────────── • Feeding clean context into ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Cursor, or any LLM interface • Obsidian, Logseq, Foam, Dendron, or any local Markdown vault • Notion, Coda, or similar tools that accept Markdown paste • Developers clipping API docs, blog posts, or Stack Overflow answers • Researchers building a reading list or reference library • Technical writers saving reference material ── OPEN SOURCE ────────────────────────────────────── Clipdown is open source and built with WXT, React 19, Mozilla Readability, and Turndown.
