Overview - Learn new vocabulary as you browse. Clicktionary instantly translates selected text, shows synonyms and example sentences, and lets you save words for later review — all in a sleek, unobtrusive popup. Key Features - Instant translation: Select text to see a concise translation in context. - Synonyms and example sentence: Get up to 6 synonyms and a short example sentence to cement understanding. - Part of speech: See whether your selection is a noun, verb, adjective, etc. - Save and manage words: Keep a personal list of learned words, with one-click removal. - Pronunciation: Play audio using your browser’s built-in voices where available. - Clean UI: Dark, modern popup that stays out of the way. How It Works - Select any word or short phrase on a webpage. - A popup appears with the translation, detected language, and optional details. - For single words, synonyms and an example sentence are added automatically. - Click “Save” to add the word to your learned list; manage saved entries in the popup. Smart Behavior - Same-language optimization: If the detected language matches your target language, example translation is hidden to reduce noise. - Robust messaging: Background processing updates the popup without disrupting your browsing. Privacy & Security - Keys are stored in chrome.storage.local on your device and are not synced or bundled with the extension. - Only the text you select (and minimal context when needed) is sent to the translation/synonym services. - Logging avoids sensitive content; only minimal metadata is recorded to help with reliability. - You can disable optional features (e.g., Gemini synonyms) any time. Permissions - storage : Saves your preferences and learned words. - Host permissions: Limited to the translation/synonym APIs you enable. - Content script: Runs on the pages you visit to detect selections and display the popup. Supported Languages - Translations: DeepL-supported languages. - Part of speech: Most reliable for English, Spanish, German, French, Italian, and Portuguese; falls back gracefully for others.
