ClearRec is a free screen recorder and video editor for Google Chrome. Record your screen, an application window, a browser tab, or your webcam, then trim, crop and export to MP4, WebM or GIF. Your recordings stay on your device. No account, cloud upload or watermark. RECORD WHAT YOU NEED • Choose a screen, window or tab through Chrome's capture picker. • Record your webcam alone, or combine it with a screen recording. • Include microphone audio and available tab or system audio. Audio availability depends on the selected source, operating system and Chrome. • Select your microphone, check its level and make a five-second local audio test. • Use a countdown, pause/resume controls and configurable recording shortcuts. • Choose from six quality targets, from 720p/30 fps to 4K/60 fps. Actual output depends on the source, device and available resources. EDIT BEFORE SHARING • Trim the beginning and end, remove unwanted sections and undo or redo cut and mask edits. • Crop to a chosen aspect ratio or a custom area. • Cover private areas with solid black masks. Masks cover video pixels; they do not remove audio. • Export MP4, WebM or an animated GIF, with output-size presets and progress/cancel controls. • Open an existing local video in the editor. EDITABLE CAMERA LAYOUT Choose Editable layout when recording screen and camera to keep separate local clips. Reposition and resize the camera in the editor, change its shape, mirroring and border, or add camera-position keyframes. Export combines both sources with your chosen layout. A camera already merged into a video cannot be moved independently. SAVE AND RECOVER LOCALLY • Save through Chrome's download manager, using a chosen location or a ClearRec subfolder. • Search recent recordings and give them local library titles. • Retry a failed save and reopen available recovery data from the launcher. Recovery is best effort; interrupted files can be partial. • Reopen editable projects from local storage, save both original clips as backups, or explicitly delete local project sources. PRIVACY AND PRACTICAL LIMITS Recording and editing run locally with bundled code. The extension does not upload recordings, collect analytics or require a login. Preferences can sync through your own Chrome profile if Chrome Sync is enabled. ClearRec sets no fixed recording-time limit, but browser storage quotas, available memory, disk space and encoder capabilities limit recording and export. Recovery copies and editable project sources can remain in local browser storage. Deleting a downloaded file or a library entry does not delete retained project sources; use the local-project controls. Removing the extension removes its local data, so back up originals first. File URL access is optional. When enabled in Chrome's extension settings, it helps reopen recordings from disk; otherwise use the file picker. ClearRec reads the recording you select, without scanning your filesystem.
