Turn up any tab, without it turning to mush. Most volume boosters do one thing: multiply the signal. Past a point that pushes the audio past what digital sound can hold, and the peaks get squared off into distortion. That is why cranking a booster to 600% often sounds harsh, fatiguing, and barely louder than 200%. ClearAmp adds the stage those boosters leave out. Your audio runs through a real limiter and a soft-clipping stage, so extra gain turns into extra loudness instead of extra crackle. There is a live meter in the popup that shows the limiter working, so you are not taking our word for it. It is empty. Volume boosters have a bad reputation, and it is deserved - this category has repeatedly been caught injecting affiliate code and contacting shady domains. The problem is that the install screen cannot tell you which is which, because they all ask for the same thing: "Read and change all your data on all websites." ClearAmp does not ask for that. It uses activeTab, which means it can only touch the tab you have open, at the moment you open it, and only because you clicked. It cannot read your browsing history. It cannot see the pages you visit. It makes no network requests at all - there is no server, no analytics, no account, and no third-party code in it. You do not have to trust that. Chrome shows you the permissions before you install. AT 100%, IT DOES NOTHING When the slider is at 100% and nothing is switched on, ClearAmp is out of the signal path entirely - the limiter and the soft clipper are bypassed, not merely idle. Your audio comes out exactly as it went in. Processing engages only once you actually ask for more. HONEST ABOUT THE LIMITS - Some sites stream audio from a different domain in a way that makes boosting technically impossible: connecting it would silence the tab permanently. ClearAmp detects this before it does anything, tells you, and leaves your audio alone. Volume down still works there. Most boosters just silence the tab and leave you guessing. - Local files opened straight in the browser cannot be boosted, for the same reason. - Browser pages like chrome:// cannot be touched by any extension. - The limiter is very good, not magic. The browser's dynamics processor has no look-ahead, so a soft-clipping stage catches what slips past. Dramatically cleaner than plain gain - not mathematically perfect, and we will not claim otherwise. A NOTE ON YOUR EARS 600% is a lot. Start low and raise it gradually, especially on headphones, and remember that a boost set during a quiet scene still applies when a loud one arrives.
