Overview

Quietly strips tracking tags from links you open. 100% local.

CleanURL quietly strips tracking junk out of the links you open — no clicking, no copy-paste dance, no account. Ever notice the tail of gibberish on a link you're about to share? That's tracking. CleanURL removes it automatically, before the request ever leaves your machine, so the pages you visit and the links you copy stay clean. WHAT IT DOES CleanURL rewrites outbound navigations at the network layer to remove known tracking parameters. Out of the box, the free Core ruleset strips the common families of tracking tags: campaign tags added by newsletters and marketing tools, the click identifiers appended by large ad platforms, email marketing identifiers, social and referral tags, and analytics parameters. It also unwraps redirect shortcuts, surfacing the real destination a link points to instead of routing you through a tracker's hop. CleanURL only ever reveals the destination the link already contained — it never substitutes a different one. A live counter in the popup shows how many links CleanURL has cleaned. It's driven by Chrome's real rule-match event, not an estimate — if the number can't be measured, the popup shows a dash rather than make one up. WHY IT MATTERS - Cleaner links to share and copy — no more mile-long tracking tails in the message you paste to a friend. - Less cross-site tracking — parameters that follow you from an email or ad to a site get dropped at the door. - Set and forget — install it once and it works silently in the background. There's nothing to configure to get the benefit. Broke a coupon or an affiliate flow on some site? Add that site to your allowlist and CleanURL leaves it completely alone. PRIVACY CleanURL is built on Chrome's declarativeNetRequest API, which means the browser applies the cleaning rules for it. Concretely: - It does not read the content of any page you visit. - It has zero host permissions — no all-sites access, no per-site access prompts. - It sends nothing anywhere. There is no telemetry, no analytics, and no cloud sync. Your settings, allowlist, and cleaned-count all live in local storage on this one device. - No account and no sign-up, ever. - Manifest V3, with the minimum permissions a URL cleaner needs. The only time CleanURL ever contacts a server is if you personally choose to buy Pro and enter a license key — that's a single verification request, and free users never trigger it. FREE AND PRO CleanURL is free forever for the core cleaning path — the Core ruleset, the live counter, and an allowlist of up to 3 sites. Pro is an optional one-time $99 lifetime license. It adds a larger Extended ruleset that targets affiliate and marketing identifiers more aggressively, an unlimited allowlist, and a custom-rule editor where you supply your own parameter name or prefix and CleanURL strips it too. You can export your settings, allowlist, and cleaned-link history as JSON at any time — it's your data, kept on your device. CleanURL does one job — remove tracking from your links — and does it locally, quietly, and without asking for your data. That's the whole pitch.
