Overview

Read any webpage or PDF aloud with karaoke-style word highlighting, multi-language voices, and adjustable speed.

Clean Reader – Read aloud with real-time word highlighting Clean Reader turns any webpage or PDF into an audio experience with synchronized, karaoke-style word highlighting — so you can listen while your eyes follow each word. Built for readers of long articles, ebooks, novels, and documentation in Arabic, English, and other supported languages. KEY FEATURES Read aloud any page or PDF — uses your browser's built-in speech voices to read websites, articles, PDFs, and long-form content. Karaoke-style word highlighting — each word lights up in real time as it's spoken, keeping you focused on the text. Start from anywhere — hold Alt and click any paragraph, right-click → "Start reading from here," or select text and read just the selection. Multi-language voices — works with every voice installed on your system. Arabic and English are first-class; any language with an installed voice works. Adjustable speed — 0.75× to 4× playback, controlled from the side panel. Three themes — Dark, Light, and Sepia, with adjustable accent and highlight colors. Reading timer — see elapsed time and estimated time remaining for the current page. Per-site control — turn the extension on or off per website with one click. Clean Copy — surgically strips watermark text on supported sites (acts only when a known watermark is detected; never interferes with normal copy on other sites). Force-enable copy & right-click — optional override for sites that disable text selection or context menus. Optional ad & popup blocking — block popunders and common ad networks with one toggle. HOW IT WORKS Pin Clean Reader to your toolbar after installing. Open any article, blog post, PDF, or long page. Click the Clean Reader icon — the side panel opens with the Read tab. Press Play, or select some text and press "Read selection." The page reads aloud with each word highlighted as it's spoken. KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS Alt + R — Play / Pause Alt + S — Read selection Alt + X — Stop PDF SUPPORT Open a local PDF directly from the side panel with the "Open a PDF file" button. The file is parsed entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded. WHO IT'S FOR Long-form readers who prefer listening with their eyes following along. Students and researchers reading dense material in Arabic, English, or other languages. Anyone who benefits from synchronized audio-text reading. Anyone who wants a clean, distraction-free read-aloud experience in Chrome. PRIVACY Clean Reader processes everything locally on your device. It uses your browser's built-in speech voices — no audio is sent to any external server. It does not collect, sell, or share any personal data, and only acts on the pages you ask it to read.
