Claude Token Counter

Token counter, cache timer and usage bars on Claude.ai. Export any chat to Markdown, and check your limits from the toolbar.

Unofficial extension, not affiliated with Anthropic. Claude Token Counter adds a small heads-up display to claude.ai so you always know where you stand before you hit a limit, and lets you take a conversation with you when you are done. WHAT IT SHOWS ON THE PAGE: Approximate token count for the current conversation, next to the chat title. A cache countdown showing how long the conversation stays cached, so you can tell when a reply will be cheaper to continue. It appears only while the context is actually cached and disappears when the window closes. Session (5 hour) and weekly (7 day) usage bars in the message box, read from Claude's own API rather than the rounded percentages on the usage page. Bars turn amber past 75 percent and red past 90 percent, so a limit is obvious before you reach it. EXPORT A CONVERSATION: One click saves the open chat as Markdown or plain text. The export contains every message in the thread, not only what is on screen, and includes files Claude generated with their later edits applied, so an exported script matches the version that actually ran. Alternate versions of edited messages and raw tool output are left out. Everything is built in your browser and saved straight to your downloads. CHECK YOUR LIMITS FROM ANY TAB: Click the toolbar icon to see your plan's session and weekly limits with the time they were last read, from any page and not only claude.ai. A refresh button fetches current numbers, and a settings panel lets you switch off anything you would rather not see on claude.ai: the token counter, the cache timer, the export button, either usage bar, or the refresh control. There is also a one click bug report. PRIVACY: Everything happens locally in your browser. The extension reads Claude's own API responses to get precise usage figures and uses a built in tokenizer to estimate token counts. Nothing is sent to any server other than claude.ai, and no conversation content is ever stored or transmitted. There is no analytics and no telemetry. PERMISSIONS: The extension asks for one permission, storage, which is used to remember your settings and the last usage reading so the toolbar popup has something to show. Access to claude.ai is optional and requested only if you press refresh in the popup, so nothing is requested when you install. Open source at github.com/kr1shnasomani/claude-token-counter
