Upload a stucode-to-name mapping and replace student names on Classter Absences pages.
Classter Name Alias: Troubleshooting & FAQ A quick guide to keeping your student lists organized and error-free. Getting Started I can’t find the extension icon. Click the Extensions icon (grey puzzle piece) in the top-right of Chrome. Find Classter Absences Name Alias and click the Pin icon to keep it visible. The “Add to Chrome” button is greyed out. Make sure you are signed into your professional Google account in Chrome. If you are using Incognito, extensions may be disabled by default. The extension isn’t appearing in Classter. Refresh your browser page (F5 or the circular arrow). Extensions often need a fresh page load to inject their features into the site. Working with the Excel Template “My names didn’t change after I imported the file.” Check the columns: only modify the New Name column. If Studcode or Current Name is edited or moved, the extension won’t recognize the students. Refresh rule: after clicking Import, refresh your Classter Attendance page to see changes. “I added a new student to my class. How do I update the list?” The extension does not auto-detect new students. Open the extension and click Download Prefilled Template again. A new list (including the new student) will be generated. Add aliases and import the file. It safely overwrites the old list. “The Excel file says it is Read Only or won’t save.” This usually happens if the file is still selected in the Choose File dialog in Chrome. Close the upload window, save changes in Excel, then upload again. Maintenance & Reverting “How do I go back to original student names?” Click the extension icon. Click Clear Mapping. Refresh the page. Official names from Classter will reappear. “Does this work on iPad or phone?” No. The extension currently works only on desktop Google Chrome. Mobile browsers on iOS/Android do not support Chrome Web Store extensions. Pro Tips for Zero Friction Naming convention: Save Excel files with a clear format like Year_Subject_Section.xlsx (example: 2024_Maths_GroupA.xlsx) to avoid importing the wrong class list. Golden rule: Never delete the Studcode column. Studcode is the “handshake” between the extension and Classter. Without it, aliases cannot be matched.
