Overview

Proof of person. Sign what you type on sites you choose, and check Ballpoint proofs on any page, right in your browser.

Proof of person. Ballpoint records how a piece of writing was made, key by key, while you write it, and signs the result. Anyone who reads it later can check the proof: that the text is intact since it was signed, which parts were typed in the box, which were pasted and which were already there, and how fast it was typed. This extension brings that to the sites you already write on, and marks proofs on the pages you read. WHAT IT DOES For writers • Turn it on for a site from the toolbar button ("Enable here"). It is off on every site until you do. • Write in the site's own compose box. A small Ballpoint panel counts your keys and tells typed text from pasted text. • Press Sign. If you have paired the Ballpoint phone app, your phone asks you to approve, with your face, fingerprint or PIN. Without a phone, your computer's passkey can sign instead, and the proof says which one was used. • Copy the proof: your text with a proof link under it, the link alone, a hidden mark that travels inside the text, or a quote of chosen sentences with its proof. Paste it into your post and publish as usual. • Keep your words private: with "Keep my text off the proof page" on (the default), the proof page shows no text; readers check a passage by pasting it. • Optional typing check: if you install the Ballpoint Typing Check app on your computer and switch it on, it counts the keys you type into Ballpoint (never which keys) as a second, independent count. It is off by default and the extension works fully without it. For readers • When a page carries a Ballpoint proof (a link, a plain-text token or a hidden mark), the extension checks it in your browser and marks the passage: green when the copy matches what was signed, amber when it was reformatted or edited. • Hover or click the passage for a card with what the proof shows, and a link to the full proof page. • A toolbar button to check any proof link by hand, and to scan a page for proofs whose link was stripped. • Works on Reddit, Wikipedia, Medium and other sites you write on. WHAT A PROOF SHOWS, AND WHAT IT DOES NOT A proof shows that the text is intact since it was signed, how it was made in the box (typed, pasted, already there), its typing pace, when the server saw the writing session, and who approved it: your phone, or a passkey the server witnessed. The proof page names its level in plain words. It does not show that a keyboard was used: the browser cannot tell a script from a keyboard, and every proof made in a browser says so. It does not show who had the ideas, or that no AI helped. For stronger evidence, write in the Ballpoint Pen desktop app or approve on the Ballpoint phone app; the extension tells you where. PRIVACY • Off until you choose: capture runs only on sites you enable. Reading pages sends nothing to Ballpoint unless the page already carries a Ballpoint proof. • When a page carries a proof, the extension looks it up by a one-way hash of the text, never the text, and records that the proof was seen at that page's address, so a proof's "seen on the web" list works. • When you press Sign, your text goes to Ballpoint once so it can compute the proof's fingerprints. With "Keep my text off the proof page" on (the default), it is not kept and not passed to anyone else; turn that off and the text is kept, shown on the proof page and searchable. • Checking images for Content Credentials (C2PA) and looking pages up by address are separate switches, both off by default. • No account, no ads, no analytics, no tracking. Settings stay in your browser. Full policy: https://verify.ballpoint.app/privacy Ballpoint is made by Ballpoint Studio (ballpoint.app). Questions: support@ballpoint.app
