When life gives you articles, CitRe them. 🍋 CitRe is a free Chrome extension that turns highlighted bibliographic text into structured citations. Select text from an article, reference list, publisher page, Google Scholar result, or document, and CitRe helps identify the title, authors, year, journal, DOI, and other citation details. CitRe can format references in common citation styles including APA, AMA, Vancouver, Harvard, Chicago author-date, and MLA. It can also verify citations against Crossref, show the evidence behind a potential match, find related articles, copy formatted citations, export BibTeX/RIS/CSL-JSON, and prepare references for Paperpile. Privacy is built into the extension. CitRe does not run analytics, tracking, advertising, or hidden telemetry, and it does not send your highlighted text to a CitRe server. Local parsing and page-metadata extraction happen in your browser. Crossref verification is optional and can be disabled entirely.
