Overview

Create Citation from Highlight

CITATIONTOOL: Quote the text. Save the URL. Show it in context! Select words, a phrase, or a passage on a webpage. Control-click or right-click and choose CitationTool. Copy a partial citation with a source link that points back to the text you selected. THE GAME CHANGER: SHOW THE QUOTE IN CONTEXT We have fingers; we need to point. A VDL says: that thing there. A quotation tells someone what you read. A Very Deep Link (VDL) lets them see it in the original page—with the quoted words highlighted where supported and the surrounding material available to read. “This sentence. This claim. This passage. That thing there.” Readers can check the wording, see what came before and after, and understand why the quote matters. Less hunting through a long page. More context for the reader. Chrome calls the underlying idea 'Copy link to highlight', tucked into the right-click menu. CitationTool builds selected-passage links into a citation workflow: the quote, the source, the access date and a way to see the words in context. SELECT. CITE. PASTE. • Select the text you want to quote. • Choose CitationTool from the selection’s context menu, or assign a shortcut at chrome://extensions/shortcuts. • Paste the copied citation, review it in the Citation ready dialog, or use the saved files. . On macOS, saved .webloc links can also be previewed in Finder Quick Look: select the file and press Space. Compatible live-page previews can show the selected passage highlighted where supported. LOCAL OUTPUT Filenames begin with CitationTool followed by the first five words of the original selection. The full quote stays in the output. Repeated names receive numbered suffixes. Citation creation and file generation happen locally in your browser. FULLY FUNCTIONAL 🟣 NAGWARE 🟣 All citation and save features work without payment. Buy removes purchase reminders and the Buy button; it adds no citation features. As a well mannered nag, reminders stay out of copied citations and exported files.
