Overview

Save web pages, articles and PDFs as formatted citations in one click. Harvard, APA, MLA — no copy-pasting.

Save sources for your essays and research in one click — no copy-pasting, no formatting headaches. CitApp automatically extracts the title, author, date and publisher from any web page or PDF, then formats a ready-to-use citation for you. Just open the page, click the CitApp icon, and hit Save source. You will need a free CitApp account. This extension is the save button; citapp.org is where your sources live — that is where you find them again, switch citation style, and build the finished reference list. Creating an account takes about twenty seconds and the extension connects itself. No card, and saving sources in the app is unlimited and free. What CitApp does 📌 One-click saving Click the extension icon on any web page, article or online PDF. CitApp reads the page metadata and saves the source directly to your CitApp project — no forms to fill in. 📄 Works with PDFs — even paywalled ones, and long ones CitApp detects PDF files automatically, including PDFs behind university logins that a normal web scraper can't reach. The file is read in your browser, where you are already signed in, and only the text it needs for the citation is sent — so a 200-page thesis works exactly like a two-page article, and the file itself never leaves your computer. Repository links without a .pdf on the end work too. 💾 PDFs you've already downloaded Open a PDF from your own computer in Chrome and CitApp can read that too, once you switch on Allow access to file URLs on the extension's details page. Chrome keeps that switch off by default and no extension is allowed to flip it for you, so CitApp explains where it is. Nothing else on your disk is ever read. 📑 Page numbers, found for you Quote a passage from a PDF and CitApp works out which page it came from, so a quotation citation is complete without you counting pages. ✏️ Harvard, APA and MLA citations Every saved source gets a formatted in-text citation ready to copy. Switch between Harvard, APA, MLA and 150+ other styles at any time inside the CitApp dashboard. 🔍 Auto-extraction Title, author, publication date, journal, publisher and DOI are read from the page's metadata and structured data. For tricky pages, CitApp uses AI to fill in what's missing. 📂 Organised by project Sources land in your Unsorted sources and can be dragged into subject folders (History essay, Biology lab report, etc.) inside CitApp. 🖱️ Right-click to save a selection Select any text on a page, right-click, and choose Save selection to CitApp to capture a specific quote or passage along with the page's URL.
