Chromatic Reader
Overview
Highlights text lines in an alternating colorblind-safe palette for academic and textbook readers.
Hey there! Thanks for checking out Chromatic Reader. Let’s be completely transparent: this isn’t a massive, corporate software product backed by a huge team of engineers. It’s a personal passion project built from scratch to solve a real problem: the eye strain, focus loss, and annoying line-skipping that happens when reading long articles, blogs, or text-heavy sites online. It is 100% free, entirely authentic, and very much a work in progress. 💡 How It Works When you look at a wall of text on a screen, your eyes can easily lose their place traveling from the end of one line back to the start of the next. Chromatic Reader creates a simple visual bridge to guide you: 1. The Connected Color Path: Every text line is lightly shaded in a soft color. The dot at the end of one line matches the shading of the very next line, pulling your eyes smoothly across the text break. 2. Designed for Everyone (The Ito Palette): The extension uses the universally respected Okabe-Ito colorblind palette. This ensures that every single line transition remains highly contrasting and perfectly distinguishable for colorblind users, while still being crisp and comfortable for readers with standard vision. 3. Crisp Text: It forces the underlying words to stay solid, dark black so you don't have to squint over faint background layouts. 4. Keeps It Simple: It does its best to stick strictly to the main article block, ignoring sidebars, ads, and messy clutter. 🛠️ A Note on the Journey (Honest & Evolving) Because this is an independent project, it might not be absolutely perfect on every single website out there. Web layouts change constantly, and I am continually working on it, tweaking the code, and making it better as I test it on more pages. If you install it and run into an issue or a site where the layout looks a bit funky, please know that it is a live project that will continue to grow and improve over time. 🖱️ Simple Controls: Use the quick switch in the toolbar menu to slide it on or off. Alternatively, just right-click anywhere on the page to instantly toggle the colored tracks on or off without breaking your focus. 🔒 Purely Private: There are no tracking cookies, analytics, or hidden data collections here. All the text-wrapping and preference storage happens 100% locally on your own computer. Your reading history is your business, and it never leaves your machine. If you enjoy the extension or have ideas for how it can grow, I’d love to hear your feedback. Thanks for supporting an authentic, free tool!
