ChromaChecker Instruments Bridge
Overview
Measure display, print and viewing light on ChromaChecker pages with X-Rite, Calibrite, Konica Minolta and Nix instruments.
Trusted color, right in your browser. Connect a spectrophotometer or colorimeter to Chrome and measure real color on the websites where color decisions are made: the screen in front of you, a physical sample in your hand, and the light you are looking at it under. Lab-grade instruments, read directly by the web page — no separate desktop software to learn. Made for everyone for whom color is critical • Graphic designers — check that your screen shows color the way it should, and compare a print or proof against its target. • Architects and interior designers — measure the light in a real space and judge finishes, paints and materials under it. • Textile, paint, coating, plastics and finishing-material professionals — measure a sample against the color you specified. • Product designers — design against measured color your supplier can reproduce, when the supplier communicates color through ChromaChecker. What it measures • Your display — color and brightness of what the screen actually shows • Samples and prints — spectral reflectance, M0 / M1 / M2 where the instrument supports them • Light — illuminance, color temperature and spectrum of the ambient light What a page does with those readings — checks, comparisons, simulations — depends on the page. The extension brings the instrument to it. Display profiles with nothing to install ChromaChecker pages build a runtime profile of your monitor from measurements taken through the browser itself, so it includes everything the operating system and the browser do to color on the way to the screen. Nothing is installed in the system and no administrator rights are needed: the profile lives in the browser and is used by ChromaChecker pages. Converting it to an ICC profile for other applications is a separate ChromaChecker service. Spot colors, measured into place Beyond profile-based rendering, a spot color can be iterated on screen: the page shows it, the instrument measures it, the page corrects it — until what you see matches the target. Built for professional color work ChromaChecker takes into account what professional color depends on: how much UV is in the light a sample is measured under, how optical brighteners in paper change what you see, the paper or background a color sits on, and whether two colors that match under one light still match under another — or for another viewer. Works with professional spectrophotometers and colorimeters from X-Rite, Calibrite, Konica Minolta and Nix. The full list of supported instruments is on the ChromaChecker website. How it works A browser cannot talk to USB hardware on its own. This extension works together with the free ChromaChecker helper, a small program you install once from download.chromachecker.com — Windows (64-bit) and macOS (Apple silicon and Intel), no administrator password. The page tells you if anything is missing. It works on ChromaChecker websites. Privacy, simply The extension collects nothing and sends nothing anywhere. Your readings go only to the page you are measuring on — what that page does with them is up to the page, as with any measuring software. The extension runs only on ChromaChecker websites and cannot read anything else in your browser.
