Overview

Select Chinese text on any page to see definitions, pinyin and word breakdowns. Powered by CC-CEDICT.

Chinese Reader is a dictionary that lives in your browser. Select any Chinese word or phrase on any webpage and a small popup shows the definitions, pinyin with tone marks, and traditional-character equivalent. Long phrases get split into their component words automatically. Select 经济发展放缓 and you get 经济, 发展, and 放缓 — each with its own entry. Built for learners reading authentic Chinese content — news sites like 联合早报 and 人民日报, blog posts, social media, anything in a browser tab. Especially useful for O Level Chinese, IB Chinese B students, HSK 3+ learners, and anyone tired of switching to a separate dictionary app every time they hit an unfamiliar word. PRIVACY AND OFFLINE The dictionary is bundled inside the extension. No API calls, no network requests, no analytics, no tracking. DICTIONARY Chinese Reader uses CC-CEDICT, the open-source Chinese-English dictionary maintained by MDBG and contributors (https://www.mdbg.net/chinese/dictionary?page=cc-cedict).
