Chinese Dyslexia Reader makes Chinese web pages more accessible for readers with dyslexia or other reading difficulties. FEATURES • Click-to-Read: Click any sentence to hear it read aloud character by character with a highlight that follows along. Numbers and English words in the sentence are read too. The highlight stays aligned with the text as you scroll. • Full-Page TTS: Read the entire page aloud with pause/stop controls and adjustable speed. • Word Segmentation: Adds subtle spacing between words so boundaries are clear, using a 300,000-word local dictionary. • Pinyin Annotation: Shows pinyin above every Chinese character, with correct readings for polyphonic characters. • Large Text Mode: One-tap 150% scaling with matching line spacing. Or fine-tune with sliders — text size 80–250%, line spacing 100–300%. • Reading Backgrounds: Cream, light blue, or light green background tints to reduce eye strain. • Line Focus: Dims everything except the line under your pointer. While Click-to-Read is speaking, the clear band follows the voice instead, so your eyes never lose their place. • Hover Dictionary: Hover any word for instant Chinese definitions and pinyin. Works offline. Falls back to CC-CEDICT English if no Chinese entry exists. • AI Simplification (optional): Uses your own OpenAI API key to rewrite complex sentences into simpler Chinese. Every feature can be toggled independently. Tools are off by default on each new page until you turn them on so normal browsing is not interrupted. PRIVACY All processing runs entirely in your browser using bundled dictionaries. No data is collected or transmitted. The only optional external call is to OpenAI, and only when you provide your own API key and activate that feature. DICTIONARIES Powered by CC-CEDICT and the mapull Chinese dictionary (300,000+ words). Both are bundled inside the extension — no downloads, no setup. Open source. Free to use. No account required.
