Overview
Practice chess openings against Chess.com bots: the next move of your chosen opening lights up on the board, one move at a time.
Learn chess openings by playing them, not by staring at a move list. Pick an opening in the popup, start a game against any Chess.com bot, and the next move of your plan is outlined right on the board: the piece to move and the square it goes to. Play the move and the next one appears. After a few games the moves come from memory, and the tiles are just confirmation. How it works 1. Choose one opening for White and one for Black in the popup, or type in your own moves. 2. Start a game against a Chess.com bot. The extension reads which color you have and loads the right plan. 3. Follow the tiles. The piece to move and its target square are outlined. Play it, and the next move shows up. Openings included Fourteen popular openings come built in, seven for each color, from club favourites like the London System and the Caro-Kann to sharper choices like the Sicilian Dragon. Each one is a short plan of your first six to eight moves, chosen to be sound and easy to remember. Want something else? Choose "Custom" and type your moves as from/to squares (d2d4 c1f4 e2e3), with O-O or O-O-O for castling. The popup checks each move as you type and shows the plan as numbered pills. Made to teach, not to play for you • One move at a time. Only the next step is shown, so the board stays clean. Prefer to see further ahead? Show the next two, three, or all remaining moves. • Subtle by design. A thin outline and a faint tint. You still see the pieces and the position. • Knows when you go your own way. Move a piece somewhere else and that tile quietly steps aside while the rest of the plan carries on. Or switch the setting to hide the whole opening once you leave it. • Reads the real board. Takebacks, reloads, new games, the analysis board: it works from the actual position, so it never falls out of sync. • Auto-detects your color from the board, or lock it to White or Black. Fair play Chess.com's Fair Play Policy doesn't allow browser extensions in games against other people. Chess Opens only switches on in games against Chess.com's computer bots and on the analysis board, and stays off everywhere else on the site. Learn the moves against the bots, then play your rated games from memory. Privacy No account, no analytics, no tracking. Your settings are saved with Chrome's own sync storage. On Chess.com the extension reads the piece positions on the board to draw the highlights, entirely inside your browser. Nothing is sent to a server. Full guides to every opening, with the reason behind each move, are free at chessopens.app. Chess Opens is an independent project and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Chess.com.
