Overview
Highlights chess squares based on notation input during games on Lichess and Chess.com.
Chess Notation Helper brings standard algebraic chess notation (SAN) to life directly on your board, no more switching back and forth between moves and notation. As you play on Chess.com or Lichess.org, this extension automatically: Detects each move in real time via a lightweight MutationObserver Highlights the destination square with a subtle overlay grid Displays the SAN (e.g. Nf3, exd5, O-O) on that square for 2 seconds, then fades out Handles castling, pawn promotions, captures and disambiguations seamlessly Because everything runs locally in your browser, no personal data is collected or transmitted. How it works Install and enable the extension. Navigate to any live game on Chess.com or Lichess.org. When you (or your opponent) move a piece, watch the board highlight the landing square and show its notation—instant feedback that helps you learn SAN while you play. Open extension popup to pause it or change the highlight duration. Who it’s for: Beginners mastering algebraic notation Coaches & students reinforcing move-to-notation connections Casual players who want a cleaner, more informative board Install Chess Notation Helper today and level up your notation skills without ever leaving the board!
