Chernivtsi is a beautiful city. But the city has more than just a pretty face; it also has historical and cultural importance. According to archaeological discoveries, Chernivtsi dates back to the Neolithic period. A fortified city that once stood on the northeast coast during the Duchy of Halych. It was known as the 'Black City' - perhaps because of the dark color of its walls - and was largely destroyed during the Mongol invasion. Some parts of the fort remain today.
