CheckCar.ai is an independent buyer-side service for used cars in Australia and the United States. You paste (or, with this extension, one-click import) the listing you're looking at, and you get back a structured report on that exact car — a fair-price band against current market data, the known reliability and ownership-cost issues for that make, model and year, the questions worth asking the seller, and the red flags worth walking away over. The report is written for the buyer; nothing in it comes from the seller or the dealership. This extension is the import half of that workflow. It lives quietly in your toolbar and only wakes up on a small, fixed list of mainstream used-car listing sites in Australia and the United States. When you find a car you want a report on, click the toolbar icon and pick "Send to CheckCar.ai". The extension reads the vehicle's details from the page you're already looking at, sends them to your CheckCar.ai account, and opens your draft report pre-filled and ready to generate. No retyping the year, make, model, mileage, price, location, or photo URLs. Where the extension runs The extension activates only on individual vehicle-listing pages on a fixed list of mainstream used-car marketplaces in Australia and the United States — large general marketplaces, traditional classifieds, dealer-network sites, and a handful of major auction sites. It does not activate on the home pages, search results, account pages, or any non-listing surface of those sites, and it does not activate on any other website. We deliberately don't repeat the full list here so this description stays readable. What it does on a supported listing page When you click "Send to CheckCar.ai" on a supported listing, the extension reads the vehicle's details from the page — typically the year, make, model, variant, mileage, asking price, location, fuel type, body type, transmission, drive type, engine details, exterior colour, VIN where shown, registration status, the seller's name and type (private or dealer), the listing's headline and URL, the hostname of the listing site, the URLs of up to six listing photos, and a short plain-text excerpt of the listing description body (capped at roughly 6 KB) so the report can quote what the seller actually said. You can correct any extracted field inline before sending — every chip in the popup is editable. Those fields are then sent in a single HTTPS request to your own CheckCar.ai account. Your draft opens in a new tab, signed in, ready to generate the report. The extension never captures contact details such as phone numbers or email addresses, even when they appear on the listing page. What it does not do The extension does not include any analytics, telemetry, tracking pixels, or third-party SDKs. It does not read pages outside the supported listing surfaces above — your other tabs, browsing history, bookmarks, search queries, and form data are not visible to it. On Facebook the permission is scoped to individual Marketplace listings only, so it does not see your feed, Messenger threads, Marketplace chat, profile, friends list, or groups. On eBay it is scoped to individual item listings only. The extension never reads passwords, payment details, or cookie values; the browser attaches your existing checkcar.ai session cookie automatically when the import request is sent. Your data is not sold, shared, or transferred to anyone other than checkcar.ai itself, and is not used for credit, lending, insurance underwriting, or risk-scoring decisions. All JavaScript executed by the extension is bundled into the uploaded package at build time — there is no remote-code loading. Privacy summary The extension reads the listing fields described above from a supported listing page only when you click "Send to CheckCar.ai", and sends them to your own CheckCar.ai account so your draft report can be pre-filled. That is the entire data path. All outbound traffic from the extension is to checkcar.ai over HTTPS; there is no other destination. On-device storage (chrome.storage.local) holds two things only: a flag remembering you've already connected the extension to your account, and the email address of your connected CheckCar.ai account so the popup can show "Signed in as …". No listing content, browsing history, or credentials are cached on-device. The first time you click "Send to CheckCar.ai" while signed out, the popup offers a "Connect to checkcar.ai" button that opens a one-time connect page in a new tab. This handshake exists purely so we can stop nagging you to sign in on subsequent visits. Visit a vehicle listing on a supported site, click the CheckCar.ai toolbar icon, then "Send to CheckCar.ai". Your draft report opens in a new tab, pre-filled, ready to generate.
