ChatGPT Markdown Exporter
Overview
Export ChatGPT conversations as Markdown files, with code blocks, math formulas and image placeholders preserved.
Export your ChatGPT conversations as clean, well-structured Markdown (.md) files—ready to use in Obsidian, Notion, Typora, or any Markdown editor. Why install this extension? ChatGPT conversations are full of valuable insights, code snippets, problem-solving ideas, and thoughts worth keeping. Copying and pasting manually is tedious, error-prone, and loses formatting. This extension solves all of that in one click. Save everything. Lose nothing. What it does 1. One-click export: An Export button appears on every ChatGPT conversation page. Click it, and the full conversation is downloaded instantly as an .md file. 2. Batch export: Open the popup or floating panel, select multiple conversations, and export them all at once as a ZIP archive. 3. Clean Markdown: Code blocks stay code blocks. Math formulas ($$...$$) stay math formulas. Links become clickable references. Formatting stays perfectly intact. Key features 1. Built on the official ChatGPT API: It doesn't scrape page content. The extension extracts structured data directly from ChatGPT's backend, so it keeps working even if OpenAI updates the UI. 2. YAML front matter: Every exported file includes metadata: title, source link, model name, and timestamp. Great for organizing in a knowledge base. 3. Message timestamps: Optionally add a timestamp to each message (12-hour or 24-hour format). 4. Smart content handling: Code blocks, LaTeX math, images, audio transcripts, web citations—everything is rendered properly in Markdown. 5. Shared page support: You can also export conversations from chatgpt.com/share/... links. 6. Safe filenames: Automatically handles special characters and duplicate filenames. 7. Ultra lightweight: Generates ZIPs entirely in the browser, with no external dependencies. Lightweight and fast. 8. Privacy first: No data ever leaves your browser. Conversations are fetched and processed locally. No analytics, no tracking, no servers. Who it's for 1. Researchers documenting AI-assisted work. 2. Developers saving debugging sessions and code reviews. 3. Writers and students building a personal ChatGPT knowledge base. 4. Anyone who wants to truly own their conversation history.
