BEFORE INSTALLING — DATA HANDLING To calculate usage, the extension temporarily reads visible ChatGPT composer, prompt, and reply text and observes same-origin ChatGPT conversation request/response structures in the browser. When a first-party allowance endpoint requires it, the extension transiently sends the existing ChatGPT access token and account identifier only to ChatGPT itself. Message text, access tokens, and raw identifiers are not stored or sent to the developer. Numeric usage metadata, settings, salted identifier hashes, allowance snapshots, and bounded diagnostic events stay in Chrome's local extension storage. ChatGPT & Codex Usage Tracker adds a compact usage panel to chatgpt.com and a detailed extension popup. It helps you understand visible conversation length, estimated next-send input size, message activity, Codex percentage remaining, renewal countdowns, and server-reported Codex activity totals. Prompts, responses, source code, filenames, cookies, access tokens, and raw conversation IDs are not stored. ACCURACY ChatGPT does not expose complete context or a supported per-message token API to browser extensions. ChatGPT token values are therefore local estimates and exclude hidden instructions, memory, internal reasoning, some tools, retrieval data, and some attachment processing. Codex percentages and renewal times are copied from first-party ChatGPT responses when available. OpenAI uses weighted allowance and does not expose a fixed subscription token ceiling, so the extension does not convert percentages into token totals. Any 5-hour window shown is explicitly a Codex window, not a general ChatGPT chat limit. REQUIREMENTS Use a signed-in chatgpt.com tab to refresh Codex allowance information. Cached analytics remain available in the popup when ChatGPT is closed. The extension only reports usage. It does not bypass, reset, automate around, or modify ChatGPT/Codex limits or other platform safeguards. This is an independent, unofficial project.
