Adds a floating index sidebar to ChatGPT to easily navigate long conversations.

# Chat Index Navigator 📑 A Chrome extension that adds a **floating, navigational sidebar** to ChatGPT. It automatically indexes your conversation in real-time, allowing you to jump between prompts and answers instantly. ## ✨ Features * **Real-time Indexing:** Automatically scans the chat and builds a Table of Contents. * **Smart Previews:** Shows the first few words of your prompt and the start/end of the AI's response. * **Visual Tags:** Automatically detects and tags `[code]`, `[image]`, and `[table]` content. * **Scroll Sync:** The sidebar highlights the current section you are reading in the main chat window. * **Draggable & Resizable:** Move the sidebar anywhere on the screen and resize it to your liking. * **Customizable Settings:** * Toggle "Show Answers" on/off. * Adjust word count preview (10, 20, or 40 words). * Settings persist across reloads. * **SPA Support:** Works seamlessly when switching between different chat conversations without reloading. ## 🚀 Installation (Developer Mode) Since this is a custom local extension, you install it via "Load Unpacked": 1. Download or clone this repository to a folder on your computer. 2. Open Chrome and navigate to `chrome://extensions/`. 3. Toggle **Developer mode** in the top right corner. 4. Click **Load unpacked** (top left). 5. Select the folder containing `manifest.json`. 6. Open ChatGPT, and the sidebar will appear automatically! ## ⚙️ Usage * **Navigate:** Click any item in the sidebar to smooth-scroll to that message. * **Settings:** Click the **Gear Icon (⚙️)** in the sidebar header to open the settings panel. * **Move:** Click and drag the header (where it says "Index") to move the sidebar. * **Resize:** Drag the bottom-right corner (or any edge) to resize the panel. * **Collapse:** Click the `—` button to minimize the sidebar into a floating bubble. ## 🛠️ Troubleshooting * **"No prompts found":** Try refreshing the page. If the chat is extremely long, give it a few seconds to index. * **Sidebar Disappeared:** Click the extension icon in the Chrome toolbar or refresh the page to reset its position.
