Overview
Never miss a live chat reply. Plays a sound, flashes the tab and notifies you when a support agent messages you on any website.
Never miss a live chat reply again. You start a live support chat on a website. The agent says "one moment please." You switch to another tab to get some work done... and ten minutes later you come back to find the agent replied, waited, and closed the chat. Now you're back at the end of the queue. Most website chat windows make no sound and give no sign that a new message arrived. Chat Ding fixes that. It watches the chats you're using and alerts you the moment someone writes back, so you can keep multitasking without losing your place in line. WHAT IT DOES When an agent or chat assistant sends you a new message, Chat Ding can: • Play a sound. Choose from 8 built-in sounds (Ding, Chime, Desk bell, Pop, Marimba, Doorbell, Triple beep, Soft glow) or upload your own. • Flash the tab. The chat tab's title and icon blink until you come back to it, so you can spot it instantly among your other tabs. • Flash Chrome in your taskbar. Gets your attention even if you're working in a different app. • Show a desktop notification with a preview of the message. Click it to jump straight to the chat. • Show an unread count on the toolbar icon. • Remind you. If you still haven't looked, it dings again (every 30 seconds, up to 3 times by default, fully adjustable), so a chat doesn't time out on you. Everything turns off by itself as soon as you switch back to the chat. WORKS ON VIRTUALLY ANY WEBSITE Chat Ding is not tied to one company or chat provider. It recognizes live chats wherever they appear: • Pop-up help bubbles in the corner of a page • Chat windows embedded from a separate support service • AI chat assistants, including ones that type their replies out word by word • Full-page chat windows and pop-out chat windows • Chats built with modern web components that most tools can't see into SMART ABOUT WHAT COUNTS AS A NEW MESSAGE A ding is only useful if you can trust it. Chat Ding is designed to alert you for real replies and stay quiet otherwise. It ignores: • Your own messages • "Agent is typing..." indicators • Queue position and wait-time countdowns • Timestamps, "Sent" and "Read" labels • A chat window re-loading or re-drawing its history To avoid surprise noises while you browse, Chat Ding starts watching a chat once you type in it. Pop-up "Hi, can I help you?" greetings on sites you're just browsing won't ding you (you can turn that on in settings if you want it). ONE CLICK FOR ANY CHAT IT MISSES Chat Ding finds most chats automatically. If it ever doesn't recognize one, click the toolbar icon and choose "Find chat on this page." Every possible chat on the page gets a red outline. Click the one you're using and you're done. Chat Ding remembers it for that website, so it works automatically on every future visit. Chats you type in are also learned automatically. You can review or forget remembered chats anytime in settings. SIMPLE TO USE 1. Install Chat Ding and pin it to your toolbar. 2. Start a chat on any website like you normally would. 3. Go do something else. You'll hear it when they reply. The toolbar popup shows at a glance whether the current tab's chat is being watched, lists chats waiting in your other tabs (click one to jump there), and lets you test your alert, change your sound and volume, or pause Chat Ding on any site with one click. A "Recent activity" list shows exactly what triggered each alert. YOUR SETTINGS, YOUR WAY • Pick a sound and volume, or upload your own clip (MP3, WAV or OGG) • Turn tab flashing, taskbar flashing, notifications, message previews and the unread badge on or off individually • Set how often and how many times reminders repeat • Optional quiet mode: no ding when the chat is already in front of you • A list of sites to ignore. A few popular messaging apps that already make their own sounds are ignored by default, and you can edit the list. PRIVATE BY DESIGN • Everything happens on your computer. Chat Ding has no servers. • No account, no sign-up. • No tracking, no analytics, no ads. • Your chat messages are never sent or stored anywhere. Chat Ding only reads new text inside chat windows to decide whether to alert you, and the optional notification preview is shown only on your own screen. • Remembered chats and settings are stored locally in your browser. WHY CHAT DING NEEDS ITS PERMISSIONS • Read and change data on websites: live chats can appear on any site, so Chat Ding needs to look for chat windows on the pages you visit. It only reacts to chat areas, and it only changes a page to flash the tab title and icon or to show the outline when you use "Find chat on this page." • Notifications: to show the desktop pop-up for new messages. • Tabs: to know which tab a message came from, flash it, and bring it to the front when you click an alert. • Storage: to save your settings and remembered chats in your browser. • Alarms: to schedule reminder dings. • Offscreen document: to play your alert sound in the background. GOOD TO KNOW • Chrome's Memory Saver can put tabs you haven't used for a long time to sleep. If you keep long chats open in the background, you can add those sites under Chrome Settings > Performance > "Always keep these sites active." • On Windows and Mac, make sure notifications for Chrome are allowed in your system settings if you want the desktop pop-ups. The sound plays either way. Stop babysitting chat windows. Install Chat Ding, start your chat, and get back to work. We'll let you know when they reply.
