China Satellite Align

Puts Google Maps' roads, labels, and places in mainland China at their true positions, on the satellite photos.

THE PROBLEM China requires maps of itself to use GCJ-02, a deliberately offset coordinate system. Google Maps draws its roads, labels and places in GCJ-02, but its satellite photos at their true positions, so they're about 500 m apart, and your GPS position lands on the wrong street. This extension moves Google Maps' roads, labels, and places to their true positions, onto the photos. WHAT YOU GET • Roads, labels, and places line up with the satellite photos • Works in the map, satellite, and terrain views, and in globe view • Your location, searched and clicked places, and routes are where they really are • Coordinates Google shows (right-click menu, pins, address bar) are true GPS coordinates, and you can search with GPS coordinates directly • A Street View switch: photos uploaded in China are located inconsistently, so you can choose whether Street View moves with the map (default) or stays where Google puts it • A converter between GPS (WGS-84) and GCJ-02 coordinates, in the popup PRIVACY • No data is collected, stored or sent. The only saved settings are the two switches. • It downloads neighboring map tiles from Google's own tile servers, without cookies or a referrer. Switched off, it makes no requests of its own. • It only runs on Google Maps pages. LIMITATIONS • Mainland China only. Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan are left as they are, as they do not use GCJ-02. • Within about 600 m of some borders (Shenzhen–Hong Kong, Dandong–Sinuiju), a few roads and rivers can be off or doubled. • Some Street View photos will be off whichever way the switch is set. NEW IN 4.0 Instead of moving the photos onto the map, the map now moves onto the photos, so GPS positions, searches and coordinates are correct too. Not affiliated with or endorsed by Google.
