Overview

Fast, private screen recorder. Records locally — nothing leaves your computer.

CaptureKit — Private Screen Recorder Record anything on your screen. Keep everything on your computer. CaptureKit is a fast, professional screen recorder built for privacy. Your recordings never leave your device — no cloud uploads, no accounts required, no subscriptions. Just click Start, capture what you need, and your video is saved directly to your computer. Key Features • Record your full screen, any window, or application • Webcam picture-in-picture overlay — circular bubble composited directly into your recording • Virtual backgrounds for your webcam — replace your surroundings with any image or solid color using AI-powered person segmentation • Microphone + system audio recording — mixed and synced automatically • Choose your output format — MP4 or WebM • Multiple quality levels — Default, Good, Best, Ultra, Extreme • Frame rate control — 15, 24, 30, 60, 90, or 120 fps • Normal Save mode (up to ~1 GB, saved to library) and Large File Save mode (streamed directly to disk for hour-long recordings) • Built-in library — rename, download, or delete recordings • Keyboard shortcuts — Alt+R to start, Alt+S to stop • All recordings saved locally — nothing uploaded anywhere Privacy by Design CaptureKit was built from the ground up with privacy as the first priority. Unlike other screen recorders that upload your footage to the cloud, CaptureKit saves everything to your own device using your browser's local storage. The extension requires no account, no login, and no internet connection after the initial virtual background model download. Virtual Backgrounds Enable webcam and select a virtual background in the Settings tab. CaptureKit uses Google's MediaPipe AI segmentation model to isolate you from your surroundings in real time. Choose from 6 included backgrounds (bookshelf, newsroom, beach, lake, ranch, fireworks), pick any solid color, or upload your own images. The AI model is downloaded once and cached locally — it works entirely offline after that. Large File Recording Switch to "Large File Save" mode to record directly to a file on your disk as you record. This bypasses browser memory limits entirely, making it suitable for recordings of any length — hours of gameplay, full-day sessions, or high-resolution screencasts. Permissions Explained CaptureKit requests only the permissions it needs. No browsing history is accessed. No tab content is read. The host permissions are required solely to inject the recording script into the page that hosts the screen picker. All permissions are used for recording functionality only.
