CaptionCat

A little pixel cat on your YouTube captions, for long podcasts and listening practice. Plus hover translation and word saving.

CaptionCat puts a little pixel cat on your YouTube captions. I made it while learning English from YouTube podcasts. Hours of people just sitting and talking: great for the ears, a little lonely for the eyes. So I put a cat on the captions. WHAT THE CAT DOES • Wanders along the captions as they change • Washes its face, stretches, sneezes, curls up in a box, chases a red dot when boredom hits • Dozes off in the corner when the talk runs long, and looks up now and then at what was just said • Choose which everyday actions it does, and how lively it is: calm, balanced or lively • Works in fullscreen HANDY EXTRAS FOR LANGUAGE LEARNERS • Paper captions: each line sits on a clean paper card, easy to read over any scene. Press Alt + Shift + S to switch back to YouTube's own captions at any time. • Hover translation: rest your pointer on a caption to see the whole sentence translated. The video can pause while you read and resumes when you move away. • Word saving: click a word in English captions to save it, along with the sentence it came from, sorted by video. Copy a review prompt, or export everything as JSON. GOOD FOR • Long podcasts, interviews and lectures • Listening practice in English or any language you're learning • Anyone who'd like a bit of company while watching PRIVACY • Settings and saved words stay in your browser. There are no accounts and no tracking. • Only the caption you hover over is sent to Google Translate, and only when hover translation is on. • Privacy policy: https://captioncat.app/privacy Modeled after Jinghua, my tuxedo cat.
