Caption Lab — YouTube Captions
Overview
Read, search, copy, and export YouTube captions in a local side panel. No account required.
Read, search, follow, copy, and export available YouTube captions in a focused side panel. Open Caption Lab using its green logo in the YouTube player or its Chrome toolbar icon. Read the transcript alongside the video, search for a phrase, and click a caption line to jump to that moment. Features: • Automatically load available captions. • Choose from the video’s available caption languages. • Follow playback with the spoken line highlighted. • Scroll freely and resume following when you’re ready. • Keep the panel open as videos advance within the same playlist. • Copy the full transcript as readable text. • Export TXT, Markdown, SRT, VTT, or JSON. • Switch between light and dark themes. No Caption Lab account or subscription is required. Caption processing happens locally in your browser, with no analytics or separate caption server. Requires Chrome 142 or later. Caption availability and accuracy depend on YouTube and the selected video. Caption Lab does not transcribe audio, translate tracks, or bypass access restrictions. Some recovery methods may provide only the transcript rows YouTube has loaded. Caption Lab is an independent extension, not affiliated with or endorsed by YouTube or Google.
