Canvas for ChatGPT
Overview
Turns a ChatGPT conversation into a canvas of ideas, and splits the chat itself into numbered pages you can flip through.
Canvas for ChatGPT gives a ChatGPT conversation two things side by side: the chat as numbered pages, and a canvas where you collect the ideas from it. Pages instead of endless scrolling. Each prompt and the answer that follows it is one page. Move with the arrows in the page bar or with a keyboard shortcut, or open Contents to see every page listed by number and prompt and jump straight to one. Sending a new message makes a new page and takes you to it. Ideas on a canvas. Highlight any sentence in the conversation and press Ctrl+Shift+E, or right-click it and choose Add to canvas, to drop it on the canvas as a line. Lines are exact quotes, so their wording cannot be changed — you can move them, group them and link them, but what ChatGPT said stays as it was said. Drag one line onto another to group them, drag a group onto a group to merge the two, and drag from the edge of a line to draw an arrow to another line. Groups can be coloured, so a long conversation ends up as a picture you can read at a glance. Tables and formatting survive the trip. A quote keeps the shape it had in the chat: tables stay tables, code stays code, lists stay lists, and bold stays bold. Notes you write accept the same formatting. Blocks sized the way you want. Every block on the canvas can be one line with the rest tucked away, sized by hand from its bottom-right corner, or opened out to show all of its text. Hand-sized blocks keep their size for next time. The whole feature can be switched off from the shortcuts panel if a plain canvas suits you better. Your own notes. Double-click anywhere on the canvas to add a note in your own words. Notes are a different colour from the quotes so the two never blur together, and unlike a quote a note can be retyped whenever you want. They move, link and delete like everything else. The message box stays put. The box you type into sits at the bottom of the chat pane and stays there as you move between pages, so you can always reply without leaving the canvas. How to use it. Open a conversation on chatgpt.com, then click Open canvas, use the toolbar button, or press Ctrl+Shift+K. Press Ctrl+Shift+K again to go back to the normal page. Every shortcut can be changed in Chrome's extension shortcut settings. Your conversations stay where they are. Canvas for ChatGPT does not sign in, does not read your account, and does not send anything anywhere. The canvas you build is stored on your own computer and nowhere else, and the extension only runs on chatgpt.com. Vector icon created by Magnific - Flaticon: https://www.flaticon.com/free-icons/frame
