Canned Replies

Hi Paul, thanks for the review! Canned Replies leverages Chrome's Storage APIs which allow developers to sync data for their extensions across all your desktop Chrome instances. Unfortunately this feature does have a size limitation. This is not something developers can control if they want to offer syncing your messages across your Chrome installs unless they build and host an API to support this. I agree the right solution would be to create a hosted version of the app. This would also enable syncing your messages with the Canned Replies Android app. It's in the works but is not yet ready to launch. And yes, unfortunately there are Chrome Storage API limitations for both the total amount of storage as well as per key/value pair, the latter of which that is impacting this extension. I am working on a hosted version of this app, which will solve this problem, but it requires a good amount of work and this pet project of mine has taken a backseat to client- and employed work! I would love to find the time to work on this and offer it to others as I find this has been impacting my workflows as well. It's in progress, but the official release of this solution is not yet confirmed. Thanks for your support. When there is an update, it will be announced in the extension's page.

Hi Anthony Jackson, the extension uses Chrome Storage API's in order to save your data. Your data is stored only client-side on your browser, and if you use multiple instances of Chrome, you need to have Chrome sync enabled. None of your messages are stored on any servers. When you uninstall and reinstall, your data is lost. This is a limitation of the Chrome extension platform. Is it possible you did that? When you say you can't save new ones, what error are you getting? Are you saying that you have no messages showing up and you cannot add new ones? If so, this isn't a bug that has been reported in the past. If you are interested in helping me debug this, please send me an email at info@tinaciousdesign.com as I'd love to get this fixed. I'll need more information like version of Chrome and which operating system (Windows, Mac, Linux).

The extension was not updated recently so this is not a bug that was introduced into Canned Replies but rather the environment in which it runs, in this case Gmail. I suspect this is occurring due to developers at Google working on Gmail having changed the HTML of the compose window. I will look into fixing this. Considering that you can still use 2 out of the 3 other methods available from this extension, I'd kindly ask you to reconsider your 1-star review. You can use the popup in your browser toolbar which copies it to your clipboard, allowing you to paste it. For ease of use, you can pin the extension so it shows up in the toolbar. Alternatively, you can use the context menu feature which will inject it into any compatible text input (the Gmail compose window's input is compatible at this time). Those are the 2 options still available to you until the embedded Gmail option is updated to reflect Gmail's new HTML. In the future, feel free to report bugs to info@tinaciousdesign.com. Please keep in mind that the nature of extensions like this are subject to the environment in which they run, i.e. if Google changes dependent HTML the extension will no longer be able to find the right elements in order to inject itself into the page.
