Overview
See who inherits your property under California law if you die without a will. Educational tool, not legal advice.
This extension walks you through a short set of questions about your family and shows you the default order California law uses to distribute property when someone dies without a will. Answer a few questions about marriage, children, and surviving relatives, and the tool illustrates who inherits, and in what shares, under Prob. Code § 6400 et seq. It is built for anyone who wants a plain, visual answer to "what happens to my property if I don't have a will," including people who are just starting to think about estate planning and people who want a quick way to see what an intestate estate looks like before deciding whether to make a will or trust. It covers California law only. Other states differ substantially, and most are not community property states at all. This extension collects nothing and transmits nothing. It requests no access to any website. It makes no network requests. It contains no analytics, no tracking, and no error reporting. Your answers are stored only in your own browser's local extension storage so you are not re-asked the same questions, and you can erase them at any time with the "Clear my answers" button. Uninstalling the extension deletes them. This extension is a communication about legal services from Ridley Law, a California law firm with a practice limited to estate planning, trust administration, and probate.
