Group similar tabs and close duplicate or inactive Chrome tabs, with optional scheduled duplicate cleanup.

TabPare keeps tab organization and cleanup focused and predictable. Open the extension to see how many tabs are open in the selected scope, organize eligible tabs in the current window, see the current number of duplicate and inactive tabs, close duplicates, or use the selected Close or Sleep action for inactive tabs. Actions start immediately without a second confirmation. Session-only Undo is available for the latest organization and latest tab-closing cleanup. ### Smart organize Select **Smart organize** to classify eligible tabs in the current Chrome window and create useful named and colored tab groups. TabPare preserves pinned tabs, browser and extension pages, and tabs that already belong to a group. A category with fewer than two tabs stays ungrouped. Classification is local. A deterministic classifier works without a network service. When Chrome's on-device language model is already available, TabPare can use it to enhance the plan. Only the eligible open tabs' titles and hostnames are processed for organization; no page content is read, and no titles, hostnames, URLs, or plans are uploaded to a developer server. Chrome requests the optional `tabGroups` permission the first time Smart organize is used. The user may deny it without affecting any cleanup feature. After groups are created, **Undo organization** can ungroup the affected tabs and restore their previous order when possible. That snapshot is kept only in temporary in-memory session storage. ### Manual cleanup - **Duplicate tabs:** Groups normal web tabs with the same URL. Protected tabs are kept; otherwise, TabPare keeps the most recently used copy. Optional tracking-parameter matching is off by default. - **Inactive tabs and Memory Saver:** Close includes normal web tabs past your chosen threshold and tabs Chrome already reports as discarded. Choose Sleep to ask Chrome to discard an eligible loaded page while keeping the tab; Sleep skips tabs already discarded. The compact settings note reports the scoped discarded-tab count, links to Google's setup instructions, and never treats a zero count as proof that Memory Saver is off. Active, pinned, and audible tabs are protected. Chrome internal pages and other non-HTTP(S) addresses are excluded. Choose whether manual counts and cleanup cover all Chrome windows or only the current window. You can also protect the exact hostname of the current HTTP or HTTPS page. Protected websites are excluded from manual and scheduled cleanup until you remove them. ### Undo After a cleanup closes tabs, select **Undo** beside the latest result to reopen them. TabPare restores each URL in the background and approximates its previous window and tab order. Browser history, form contents, scroll position, and other in-page state cannot be restored. The Undo snapshot lasts until another cleanup starts, Chrome restarts, or the extension is reloaded, updated, disabled, or removed. Sleep does not offer Undo because it keeps tabs open. Starting any cleanup, including Sleep, clears the previous Undo snapshot. ### Optional tracking-parameter matching **Ignore tracking parameters** is off by default. When enabled, TabPare ignores these parameter names case-insensitively while comparing duplicate URLs: `utm_*`, `gclid`, `dclid`, `gbraid`, `wbraid`, `fbclid`, `msclkid`, `mc_cid`, `mc_eid`, `_ga`, `_gl`, `yclid`, `ttclid`, `twclid`, `li_fat_id`, and `igshid`. TabPare never ignores `ref`, `source`, `si`, `tag`, `token`, `session`, or `redirect`. It preserves every remaining parameter and its original order. The selected rule applies to manual and scheduled duplicate cleanup. ### Optional scheduled cleanup Automation is off by default. A recommended two-hour interval is preselected, but no schedule runs until you enable Automatic organize, Automatic duplicate cleanup, or both. Choose a preset from 30 minutes to one week, or set a custom interval within that range. Automatic organization applies the same local classifier to eligible tabs in each normal Chrome window and needs the optional tab-group permission. Scheduled cleanup closes duplicate tabs only. Neither automation closes inactive tabs in the background. Both check all normal Chrome windows, regardless of the scope selected for manual cleanup. ### Local processing TabPare processes currently open tab metadata on your device. Organization uses eligible tabs' titles and hostnames; cleanup uses URLs, activity state, and window placement. Exact protected hostnames are saved locally and are not synced. The metadata needed for Undo and Undo organization is kept only in temporary in-memory session storage; it is not synced or sent to a developer server. TabPare includes no advertising or analytics SDK. TabPare requires Chrome 121 or later. It cannot be enabled in Incognito windows, so it does not access or save Incognito tab information.
