Overview

Pick the files you need from a ZIP download and get only those, unzipped into a folder or as a smaller ZIP.

DirectExtract lets you take just the files you need from a ZIP download. When Chrome starts downloading a ZIP, DirectExtract pauses it and shows you what's inside. With Pro, tick the files and folders you want, and only those are downloaded. If you need three files out of a 6 GB archive, you download those three files. Then choose where they go: • Straight into a folder. The ZIP itself is never saved, so there's nothing to unzip afterwards. • Into a smaller ZIP in your Downloads folder. Files with a password keep the same password. For the whole ZIP, leave everything ticked and extract it, or click "Download normally" and Chrome finishes the download as usual. Before you pick • See the folders, how many files there are and how big they are. • Programs and scripts such as .exe and .bat files are marked, so you know what you're about to put on your computer. When a ZIP can't be read Some sites don't let a download be read in parts, and some ZIPs are damaged or too unusual to read safely. DirectExtract tells you why and lets the download finish normally. A few file types, such as .dll and .ini, can't be created by any Chrome extension. DirectExtract puts those in a small ZIP next to the other files, so you can unzip them yourself. What DirectExtract can and can't do • It reads only the ZIP downloads you choose to open, and only from sites you allow. For other downloads it sees the address, name and size, to decide whether to offer. • It writes only into the folder you pick, after Chrome asks you to allow it. • It never runs or opens the files inside a ZIP. Windows marks the files it extracts as downloaded from the internet, the same as a normal download, so programs are still checked before they run. • It collects nothing. The only thing it ever sends is your license key, to Polar, the payment provider, if you buy one. Price Free for whole ZIPs up to 1 GB. Pro, a one-time $4.99 license with no subscription, lets you pick files and removes the limit.
