Bulk Rename Helper
Overview
Bulk rename and clean text items on a webpage before copying or exporting — no backend, all local.
**Bulk Rename Helper** turns messy lists into clean, consistent text you can copy or save. It runs entirely in your browser—**no backend, no sign-in, no data collection.** ### What it does - **Before / After editing:** one item per line (filenames, titles, URLs, tab titles, anything you paste). - **One-click transforms:** trim and normalize spaces, **Clean Names** (optional special-character stripping, spaces → hyphens or underscores), **lowercase / UPPERCASE / Title Case**, **prefix & suffix**, **find & replace**, **auto-number lines** (e.g. `001. …`), **remove duplicate lines**. - **Live preview** of the **Clean Names** preset as you type (optional). - **Import & extract:** **Paste from Clipboard**, **Copy Result**, **Download TXT** or **CSV**; right-click **Send selected text…** from the page; optional pulls of **link titles**, **image alt / src filenames** on the active tab, and **all tab titles in the current window**. ### You’re in control - **Popup:** full editor, item count (non-empty lines), **Reset**, and **Clean defaults** (saved with **Chrome sync**). - **Context menu:** sends the current text selection into the helper (popup may auto-open when the browser allows; otherwise open the toolbar icon to pick up the queued text). - **Exports:** you choose where files save via Chrome’s normal download dialog. ### Limits & honesty - **Restricted pages** (e.g. `chrome://`, some store/PDF contexts) block **page extraction** scripts—normal HTTPS pages work when you use **Extract** on the tab that was active when you opened the popup. - **Clipboard** read/write can be blocked by browser or OS policies. - **Title case** is simple word capitalization, not grammar-aware for every locale. - **“Remove special characters”** keeps Unicode letters, numbers, and a small safe punctuation set; adjust expectations for very unusual symbols. - **`chrome.storage.sync`** has size limits; huge pasted blobs belong in the textarea only, not as saved settings. ### Privacy Settings (prefix/suffix, find/replace fields, clean options, etc.) use **`chrome.storage.sync`** and a tiny **`chrome.storage.session`** buffer for context-menu handoff. **No browsing content is sent to any server**—there isn’t one.
