AI tutoring companion — tracks learning sessions across Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini and NotebookLM

BuddyLink Tutor — AI Learning Companion for Schools BuddyLink Tutor bridges the gap between powerful AI chat platforms and structured school curriculum. When a student opens Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, or NotebookLM, BuddyLink appears as a side panel and transforms a general-purpose AI into a focused, curriculum-aligned tutor — without requiring the student to know what to ask or how to ask it. THE PROBLEM IT SOLVES AI chat platforms are extraordinarily capable teaching tools, but left to their own devices, students often wander off-topic, work at the wrong level, or miss important curriculum concepts entirely. Teachers have no visibility into what students are actually doing in these AI sessions. And students spend valuable time copy-pasting prompts, re-explaining their grade level, and figuring out where they left off. BuddyLink solves all of this. It connects each student's AI session to the school's curriculum, their personal learning profile, and their teacher's instructions — automatically. HOW IT WORKS BuddyLink works together with the BuddyLink school portal (available at youtalk.au/tutor). Schools set up their curriculum in the portal, teachers enrol their students and monitor progress, and the extension delivers the right learning experience to each student at exactly the right moment. For Students: When a student opens one of the supported AI platforms, BuddyLink's side panel appears instantly. The panel shows: The current knowledge node (curriculum topic) the student should be working on today, based on their progress and their teacher's instructions The student's current mastery level for that topic A fully personalised AI prompt, already composed and ready to use — the student simply clicks "Copy & Inject" and the prompt is sent directly into the AI chat The prompt is not generic. BuddyLink composes it from multiple layers: The school's curriculum content for that specific topic The student's learning spark (their interests and hobbies), so the AI uses examples that resonate personally The student's cognitive stage (Acquisition, Application, or Transfer) and current mastery percentage The teacher's specific instructions for that topic Previous session summaries, so the AI knows what the student has already learned Any suggested review items from the previous session Once the session is underway, BuddyLink monitors the conversation and automatically detects when the AI has assessed the student and reached a conclusion. It extracts the session outcome — Mastered or In Progress — along with a quiz score, a learning summary, and a suggestion for what to review next time. The student can then submit their session with one click. Their mastery level updates, their learning history is recorded, and they are automatically guided to the next appropriate topic in their curriculum journey. For Teachers: The extension is the student-facing part of a complete school system. Teachers access a dedicated dashboard in the BuddyLink portal where they can: See every student's current knowledge node and mastery level at a glance View session transcripts (the full recorded conversation between the student and the AI) Review quiz scores, learning summaries, and review suggestions from each session Write per-topic instructions for students ("After this session, try the game in the Resources section") Assign specific resources (links) for each knowledge node that appear directly in the student's extension panel Override or prescribe specific curriculum topics for individual students Add pedagogy notes and misconception warnings that the AI incorporates into its teaching approach For Schools: BuddyLink works with all four major AI platforms students are likely to use: Claude (Anthropic), ChatGPT (OpenAI), Gemini (Google), and NotebookLM (Google). Schools do not need to standardise on a single AI provider — each prompt template can be configured to work optimally with any or all of these platforms. Curriculum designers at the school level can build and maintain the knowledge node structure, define learning goals, indicators of progress, pedagogy entries, and prompt templates — all from the BuddyLink portal without any technical expertise. KEY FEATURES ✦ Curriculum-aligned prompts — every AI session is anchored to a specific, teacher-approved learning objective from the school's curriculum ✦ Personalised for every student — student interests, grade level, cognitive stage, and learning history are all factored into the generated prompt ✦ Works across four AI platforms — Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, and NotebookLM ✦ Automatic session detection — BuddyLink recognises when the AI has completed its assessment and extracts the outcome automatically, with no manual tagging required ✦ Teacher instructions in the panel — teachers can leave notes, links, and guidance that students see directly inside the extension ✦ Curated resources — teachers can link learning materials (games, videos, articles) that appear in the Resources section of the student's panel ✦ Session transcripts — full conversation records are stored securely for 14 days, accessible to teachers for quality assurance and pastoral care ✦ Progress tracking — mastery levels update after every session; students and teachers always know exactly where the student is in the curriculum ✦ Navigation between topics — students can move back to review previous nodes or peek at what is coming next ✦ Safe and school-appropriate — the extension operates within the school's BuddyLink account; no student data is visible to other schools or users SUPPORTED PLATFORMS Claude (claude.ai) ChatGPT (chat.openai.com) Gemini (gemini.google.com) NotebookLM (notebooklm.google.com) GETTING STARTED BuddyLink Tutor requires a school account on the BuddyLink portal. The extension is intended for use by students enrolled in a BuddyLink school. If you are a teacher or school administrator interested in BuddyLink, please visit youtalk.au/tutor or contact us through the portal. Once your school account is set up and your curriculum is configured, students simply install this extension, sign in with their BuddyLink credentials, and open any supported AI platform. The extension does the rest. PRIVACY AND DATA BuddyLink Tutor communicates only with your school's BuddyLink server. No student data is sent to third parties. Session transcripts are stored for a maximum of 14 days and are accessible only to the student's enrolled teacher. The extension does not track browsing activity outside of the four supported AI platforms. BuddyLink Tutor turns AI chat platforms from open-ended tools into guided learning experiences — keeping students on track, giving teachers visibility, and making every AI session count.
