Bruno Collector
Overview
Capture network requests from any site and generate Bruno API collection files automatically.
Bruno Collector is a companion tool for Bruno (https://www.usebruno.com/), the open source API client. It intercepts network traffic on any tab and saves each request as a Bruno collection file directly to a folder on your machine, ready to open in Bruno with no import or conversion step. Don't have Bruno? Download it free at https://www.usebruno.com/downloads Everything runs locally. No server, no proxy, no account, no cloud sync. Captured requests are written directly to your filesystem and never leave your machine. How it works: - Click the extension icon and pick a local folder - Set your API base URL - Start scanning, then use the target site normally - Each request matching the base URL is saved as a Bruno request file, organized by path Features: - Captures fetch and XMLHttpRequest calls - Extracts Bearer and API key auth into Bruno auth blocks automatically - Replaces your base URL with the {{API_URL}} variable - Groups requests into folders by first path segment - Configurable duplicate handling: overwrite, skip, or add as example - Detects secret variables (tokens, keys) and marks them as secret in the environment file - Writes a valid Bruno collection structure with opencollection.yml and folder.yml files Supported browsers: - Google Chrome: full support - Chromium: full support - Microsoft Edge: full support Partial support: - Brave: request capture works, but Brave's fingerprinting protection blocks the File System Access API in some configurations. When direct writes are unavailable, each captured file is downloaded individually through the browser download prompt instead. Unsupported: - Firefox: MV3 and File System Access API support are incomplete - Safari: Chrome extension format not supported Note: In any browser where direct folder access is blocked, the extension falls back to downloading each captured file one at a time via the browser download dialog. Capture still works; you just need to save each file manually to your Bruno project folder. Permissions used: - storage: saves your project settings and session state locally so they survive browser restarts. Auth tokens and header values are never stored here. - scripting: injects the request interceptor into tabs when you start scanning. All injected scripts are bundled in the extension; nothing is loaded from external URLs. - activeTab: lets the OpenAPI spec scanner inject a detection script into the current tab when you click Detect Spec, without needing any pre-declared host permissions. - tabs: listens for page navigation events so the interceptor can be re-injected after page loads. No tab content or browsing history is read or stored. - downloads: fallback write mode for environments where the File System Access API is unavailable, and used for the ZIP export feature. No data is sent to any server. - windows: opens the folder picker in a separate window, which is required to trigger the File System Access API from a user gesture. - Domain access (optional, granted per domain at scan time): no host access is granted at install. When you click Start Scanning, the extension asks Chrome for permission to access only the specific domain you entered. You approve it once per domain.
