Overview

BrowserTap bridge with browser session and cookie access.

BrowserTap Bridge connects your existing Chrome session to a Model Context Protocol (MCP) client running on your computer. It works with the tabs and signed-in browser profile you already use. Requires the separate, open-source browsertap-mcp Python package and a configured MCP client. This extension is not a standalone AI assistant or hosted browser service. Use your chosen client to read pages, fill forms, click controls, wait for page changes and download files. BrowserTap also provides page screenshots, bounded network and console captures, and tools for cookies, storage, bookmarks and temporary site permissions. Ordinary page input uses the Chrome DevTools Protocol without moving the desktop mouse. Tasks can use separate, explicitly selected tabs with owner-aware cleanup. Chrome-protected pages and unsupported browser surfaces remain restricted. Some visual operations may require the selected page to be visible. Getting started: 1. Install the matching browsertap-mcp Python package in a virtual environment. 2. Add its browsertap executable to your MCP client's configuration. 3. Install BrowserTap Bridge in the browser profile you intend to use. 4. Open a normal website and ask your client to list your tabs. 5. Run browsertap doctor from that environment when setup needs diagnosis. Privacy and control: The extension's built-in bridge connects to loopback on your computer. This project does not operate a data collection server or include analytics. Task results go to your selected MCP client. If that client uses a remote AI provider, the provider may receive task data under its own terms. Page operations can also contact the websites involved in a task. Broad browser permissions allow tasks on the sites you choose at runtime. Install the extension only in a profile that the connected client is authorized to use. Read the privacy policy and project documentation for permissions, local storage and limitations.
