Overview

Explicitly select one browser tab as a tracing target.

Browser Tracer is a companion extension for the Browser Tracer CLI. It turns one Chrome tab you choose into a reviewable Playwright trace. Select a tab, then trace it: - Open the Browser Tracer popup and click Select this tab for tracing. The chosen tab shows a red toolbar state and, on scriptable pages, a temporary "SELECTED FOR TRACING" page marker. - Click Clear selection or close the tab to release it at any time. The extension is the bridge for everyday-Chrome tracing: selecting a tab connects the extension to a local native-messaging host, and the Browser Tracer CLI starts a trace without relaunching Chrome with remote debugging. Chrome's debugger attaches only while a trace is armed and detaches when the trace stops, aborts, recovers, times out, or the tab closes. Requirements: Node.js 20+, the Browser Tracer CLI (npm install -g browser-tracer + tracer link to register the macOS native host), and Google Chrome. The extension itself does not record or upload browsing data. Traces are written locally on your computer by the CLI and are never uploaded by the extension.
