Overview

Broken link checker for the open page: find dead links, 404s and each link status. Highlights and CSV/JSON export.

Broken link checker for the page you have open. Find dead links, 404 errors and the link status of every address, without marking a login wall or a bot wall as broken. Page Link Status checks the links on your active tab when you click Scan Page. It finds broken links, 404s, dead links and redirects, highlights each link on the page, and shows why that link has its status. Links behind a login are Needs login. Links that block an automated check are Unverified, not Broken. The check runs in your browser. Nothing is sent to the developer. No account. What's new in 0.4.1 - New name: Broken Link Checker - Page Link Status. - The interface is available in 12 languages. - An unobtrusive rating prompt with Rate, Later and Never. Never hides it for good. Link status - OK. The address answered successfully. - Redirect. The link works and sends people to another address. The final URL is shown. A redirect that lands on a 404 is Broken, with that final address. A drop from https to http is flagged. - Broken. A real failure: 404, 410, another 4xx, 5xx, a missing domain (DNS), an invalid certificate, a redirect loop, or a page that says it is missing while returning HTTP 200 (soft 404). - Needs login. 401, 407, an authentication 403, or a redirect to a sign-in page. - Unverified. The check could not decide (400 on an automated request, 403, 429, 999, bot protection, a timeout, or a network error). Not counted as a dead link. - Anchor warning. A missing #anchor on this page or on another page. A warning, not a broken link. Widget script buttons and javascript: links are grouped at the bottom. - Skip. Not an http(s) link, an action link (logout, delete, unsubscribe, vote, add to cart), or a link your settings exclude. Chrome Web Store links are Skip. On the page Summary tiles filter the list and the highlights together. Show on page scrolls to the link, or to the nearest visible part when the link sits in a closed menu. Report and export The report is a sortable table: link text, a clickable URL with copy, HTTP status, category, reason, internal or external, rel (nofollow, sponsored, ugc), the redirect chain and the response time. Export every result to CSV or JSON from the popup or the report. Settings Timeout, how many requests run at once, skip rel=nofollow, internal-only or external-only, highlights on by default, and 12 interface languages. Who it is for Editors, SEO specialists, QA, webmasters and developers who need a broken link checker for one blog post, docs page or landing page, before publishing, after publishing, or after a move. Limits - One page at a time. This is a broken link checker for the open page, not a site crawler. It does not run in the background or on a schedule. - Chrome does not allow extensions to scan chrome:// pages or the Chrome Web Store. Links to the Chrome Web Store are Skip. - Links the page keeps inside a closed shadow root, or in a frame from another site, cannot be read. - mailto:, tel: and javascript: links are Skip. Action links are never requested. How a link is checked Each http(s) link is requested from your browser. Requests go out without cookies. One option, on by default: if a link on the same site returns 401, 403 or 404 without cookies, it is tried once more with your session, so a private page you can open is not reported as a dead link. Cookies are never sent to other sites. Cloud metadata addresses are blocked. Privacy - The sites you check see a normal browser request from your IP address and browser. - To spot a soft 404 or a missing anchor on another page, a small HTML response (up to 64 KB) may be read in memory and is then discarded. - The developer does not see your pages, links or results. No account, no analytics, no ads, no remote code. - Results stay on this device for the browser session and are cleared when the tab navigates or closes. Settings stay on this device. - Chrome warns that the extension can read and change data on all sites. That permission is what lets it check links on other domains and highlight the open tab. It stays idle until you click Scan Page.
