)Overview
Review BPMN/DMN changes in merge and pull requests as diagrams. Jump to Camunda 7/8 code, dive into called diagrams, edit and view.
bpmn-surf shows BPMN 2.0 and DMN files in GitLab and GitHub as diagrams instead of XML, highlights exactly what a merge or pull request changed in them, and takes you from a task to the code behind it. Camunda 7 and Camunda 8 (Zeebe) diagrams alike. COMPARE CHANGES • A "Schema diff" / "Decision diff" button on every .bpmn and .dmn file of a merge request or pull request opens a visual diff: added elements in green, removed in red, changed in blue • Pinpoints the change inside an element: sequence-flow conditions, input/output mappings, decision table cells and rules • Changes to the process itself, to pools and message flows are shown too • Collapsed subprocesses are outlined when something inside them changed • A list of changes: what changed in each element and connection; click an entry to jump to it. It follows the level on screen, a collapsed subprocess with changes inside being one entry • Switch between the merge request version and the target branch version • Diff a single commit (or a range of commits of a pull request), or a repository file against a local file FROM THE DIAGRAM TO THE CODE • Jump from a service task to its handler code: external task, Java delegate or Camunda 8 job worker; a handler the merge request changed opens its diff there • The same for execution and task listeners (Camunda 7 class or delegate, Camunda 8 job worker): one badge per listener, named by its event • Jump from a message-waiting element to the code that correlates the message • Dive from a call activity into the called process, or from a business rule task into the DMN decision, and step back; list every diagram that calls the one on screen • Uses the platform's own code search in your session — no token needed (on gitlab.com and github.com code search needs a signed-in account) ALSO A VIEWER • A "View schema" / "View decision" button opens any .bpmn or .dmn file in the repository as a diagram • Properties panel for Camunda 7 and Camunda 8, with readable conditions (JUEL and FEEL); the groups touched by a change are highlighted • Search elements by name, id or parameters (Ctrl/Cmd+F) • Zoom, pan, fit to view, download any shown version EDIT A BPMN DIAGRAM • Open the shown diagram in an edit mode in a separate tab, see your edits colored against the starting version, and download the result as a .bpmn file. Nothing is ever written back to the repository. WHERE IT WORKS • gitlab.com and github.com, public and private repositories • Self-managed GitLab and GitHub Enterprise Server • Nothing is on by default: add the sites you use in the extension popup, and Chrome asks for access to that one site • The handler annotations are configurable (defaults: @ExternalTaskSubscription, @JobWorker); settings can be exported to a file and imported by a colleague PRIVACY • Diagrams are loaded from your GitLab or GitHub in your existing browser session and processed locally in your browser • No analytics, no telemetry, no third-party servers, no remote code • The extension never asks for passwords or tokens • Privacy policy: https://github.com/kaoalllex/bpmn-surf/blob/master/PRIVACY.md Open source (MIT): https://github.com/kaoalllex/bpmn-surf Bug reports and ideas: https://github.com/kaoalllex/bpmn-surf/issues
